I have a 7000 as well, and yes they look foking hot :) Since the interface is 'only' 1gbit FC, anything from 7200rpm SCSI drives on up should be able to provide pretty good performance. Any of the 10krpm generation drives that the unit is expecting (works with most Segate and IBM drives. Mine shiped...

This was very strange, because the octane would indeed boot with another system disk, so I don't think the prom was involved. Infact, once I completely re-did the offending disk, I was able to boot off it with no changes to prom/nvram.

Chalking it up to somehow botching fx the first time.

Seemed to be a fluke, I completely re-did the disk (this time creating a new label, [a]ll) and now all is well.

Yes, they point correctly to partition 8 and 0 respectively.

I'm stuck, new octane install won't boot.

Well, I'm stuck on this one, thought I hate to admit it! I followed the procedure I've used on a dozen SGIs. Boot sash, boot fx, (all from bootp) partition drive, then exit to menu, select 'install system software' and install same from tftp directorys on the O200. Everything went fine, untill I reb...

Just be aware the 213T is 1600x1200 native. SSI/MXI should be able to drive it fine at 60hz however.

Machine with APO availability?

Does anyone here have ACCESS to a machine with an APO key? My keys have expired so I need someone to 'donate' some compile time (short) to the cause.

Thanks.

Dexter: She's in the mail, hope your mailbox can hold 400lbs! ;P Here's what we're running now, this is running about as expected. Actually a bit better than expected :D) Single R10k-250 is posting 104sec execution time, which equals the p4-2.4gig (windows though) system. I didn't expect to do that ...

Strange code execution speed.

This code is executing at about 1/100th of the speed I think it should be executing at, on an Onyx2 running 6.5.26 (with 7.3 mipspro compilers) Any ideas why? Very very strange. (note, I am not a programmer, sorry :D) colour 5# vi NUC_LoopTest.cpp #include "stdio.h" #include "stdlib.h...

Thanks Lisa and everyone else! Ultimately what we will need to do is perform an auto gain & levels routine on this data. Ie, we have no real information except between the values of 1100 and 1200. However, we need to both expand, and then compress/truncate that contrast data to the 0-255 values....

Let's just agree to keep this civil. I am still looking for hard data either way. If we could purchase the systems and benchmark, of course we would. However, that is not an option, nor is writing enough code to 'benchmark' ourselves. Ok, can anyone show me an Onyx beating a P4 system in any way? (g...

Trools please leave my thread. I am talking about an 8CPU Onyx350 here, not a 'desktop' machine. We need to capture, track, convert, record and display a great deal of digital data, and I am concerned that the PC platform will be floored from I/O alone based on my initial benchmarks. (73% CPU utiliz...

Thanks for the offer squeen, but you see, the goal here is to get the contract to *produce* the app :P We're going to end up making some very crude test routines I think. The app is hugely I/O intensive, over 140MB/sec captured, tracked, converted from 14bit greyscale to 8bit for display, and write ...
