What is wrong ?

Why do you start cdplayer from icon catalog ? It doesn't start automatically after CD is inserted?

Maybe you have to wait several (or more) seconds to see what will happen...

Re: Indy Questions

How bad is performance w/6.5.* with this proc - do I want an older IRIX? What is a good hard drive to get, he's keeping his to throw in another box. I have an R4400/175 Indy with 128 MB and IRIX 6.5. It seems to be OK for most tasks (gcc, TeX, text editing, browsing with Netscape etc.). But Mozilla...

I have a R10k/250 and R5k/200 O2s. And the R10k isn't much louder than the R5k one. But both are louder than my Pentium III/1000MHz PC :(

GIJoe wrote:a) the system is rather loud. it's almost as loud as an octane2

Yes, it's loud. Get an Indy if you want a quiet SGI

GIJoe wrote:b) today it refused to boot and after a little investigation i found that some of the prom variables contained rubbish.

Try to use the "resetenv" command in the PROM.

A lot! About 35kg+ with box et al.[/quote]

About 40 kg, I think. I'm sure that the GDM20D11 with a very light box is over 40 kg (there were problems with shipping because it was over 40kg limit).

it is Xsgi that gives trouble though, blindly typing a login doesn't help. Obviously. But it is interesting that one can change mode after login without problems. Is login screen so much special? I thought I have a bad os... Me too ;) 1024x768@72Hz works here too. really don't know. It doesn't work...

One should really question whether one wants to use a VM named after a sexually transmitted disease. Well, it's impossible to expect that person who dislikes Novell NetWare will enjoy anything that goes from Novell  But you are right - it is probably the best way how to make UNIX systems to b...

and mailing lists and so far this is what the developers have said: IRIX runs on MIPS CPUS (some very old versions ran on m68k), and currently there is no support for the MIPS architecture in Mono. :( Well, there is also a different .NET implementation - a DotGNU (http://www.dotgnu.org). It...

I've had my share of cursing at XZ Indy's, because they seem to be limited in displaying only 1280x1024. Looks like that is Express gfx family related: 1024x768, which should save framebuffer space, simply is not saved between Xsgi restarts. You can save your favourite settings to a file (through x...

Re: Indy GR3-XZ freezes on boot when monitor set to 72hz.

At 1280x1024, if the screen refresh rate is set at 72hz, the machine will freeze just before the graphical login window appears. The screen gets completely garbled and turns a brownish color, with a pattern of vertical lines. The system boots fine at 60hz. I've noticed this with more than one XZ In...

Oh I wasn't aware that it was unavailable for Irix. Well that sux. Thx for the info. Maybe nobody have tried to compile it on IRIX? It is probably a very portable (from "www.go-mono.com"): "The Mono runtime engine is available for various architectures and operating systems: x86, x86-64, PowerPC, S...

Re: New apps to port... a little side-kick...

hmm I just ported dosbox under IRIX with Gcc, it actually runs but since dosbox emulates a full x86 system is a little bit "slow" on my octane, but I`ve been able to run some games and even Windows 3.1 :) I used Gcc 3.4 from nekoware and after tweaking some files here are the results Interesting.. ...
