FYI - I just read an article by Graeme Nattress last week and was absolutely flabbergasted at finding this out: Clone Dubbing Some video recorders, such as Digital Betacam do not give the outside world access to the uncompressed data on the tape, so cannot be edited natively. This also means that yo...

SGI faces dismemberment, Nvidia interested in bits

Found this in the News forum over at fxguide.com: "SGI faces dismemberment, Nvidia interested in bits Updated No more graphics By Charlie Demerjian: Friday 03 March 2006, 07:46 Update 18:46 GMT SGI said it would lay off 250 people, with CFO Jeff Zellmer and COO Warren Pratt quitting. A number o...

Re: Here goes....

SGI finally admit that they're screwed... Good riddance, in my opinion. The sooner they put SGI out of its misery the better. The once-great company that was Silicon Graphics has been dead for years now. All of the people who designed and built the products from SGI's golden years are long, long go...

The sad part is, you know damn well that these will be selling for well under a grand in 2-3 years when no one wants/needs them anymore.

I asked the seller if the DM2 XIO card was included and he says he's not sure what that is. He really has no idea at all what he's selling, or at least th...

New VBOB on eBay

http://tinyurl.com/bw9ns

I'm curious to see how much this will sell for. VBOBs are still rare enough on eBay that it's hard to know what the going rate for them is. Most resellers are getting at least $8K for VBOB/DM2 combos, if not more.

I don't really understand what "OpenGL interactivity" means I believe they're referring to how snappy the response time is when manipulating 3D composites with lots of layers. Combustion works in software OpenGL mode by default, but can use OpenGL hardware to accelerate 3D composites in t...

SGI OpenGL interactivity

There's an interesting thread over at the Creative Cow Combustion forum regarding the OpenGL interactivity of Combustion (OpenGL mode) vs. that of Flint and Flame systems that are 5 years old. Apparently, the SGIs just smoke (so to speak) the PC stuff in terms of interactivity. CPU-bound tasks are q...

Now on another note, CRT's are power hungry, heavy, take up a lot of desk space, and make a funny 'foomp' noise if you drop them. Um, I'll have to take your word for it on that last one... Implosion isn't something I'd like to witness firsthand, unless it's someone else's monitor! :D -zolo

I'm in for 3 of these !!! If they will go for 30$ a piece that is... That would save me a lot of space and at the end on the electricity bill  Can I connect them directly on an Octane ( 13W3 ) or do I need a adaptor connector ? The short answer is, you can't use them with an Octane. Not at al...

It's most likely a tally light or lights, commonly used in TV production to identify which monitor is displaying the active camera.

Looks like it has red and green tally lights.
