I am not totally convinced that all problems were fixed with the 195 Mhz R10k, though this is the somewhat official statement.

However, R12k O2 definitely don't have any audio/video/sync related issues.

stellarium 0.5.2 compiling issues

Hi, I just tried to compile stellarium 0.5.2 (http://stellarium.free.fr), but ran into problems even before I could edit the makefile. During ./configure it a) isn't able to compile the SDL test file (though SDL ist properly installed), however, this could be bypassed by passing --disable-sdltest to...

could you post your printenv results? Maybe by connecting another machine and doing a copy & paste of it. What is connected to the Octane's SCSI port?

did you try to completely reset the PROM? Get into the prom monitor (maintenance mode) and do a 'resetenv' followed by 'init'

Be sure to note down your bootpath before that if it isn't a default one.

"decent performance" clearly depends on your tasks, difficult to give you advise as long as we don't know what you want to do with it ;) As for the drive: I'd recommend getting a Plextor SCSI burner - I own three of them and I have yet to see a machine that can't deal with 'em - all my SGIs, Suns, H...

wouldn't hurt I guess. I personally think it would be great to have access to some older HotMix CDs.

All that counts is what mt stat gives you, not what HP printed on the drive ;)

Do you have the problem with all you DAT tapes or just with one?

Did you set the DIP switches like HP recommends, too?
How do you try to recover the tape? With tar or cpio?

Open the /var/systen/master.d/scsi in your favorite editor, do a search for "HP", there should be at least one entry. Copy this one (or just edit it directly), following HP's directions: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?locale=en_US&taskId=115&prodSeriesId=63914&...

ok, this one could be easier ;) what DAT drive? What does 'hinv -c tape; mt stat' tell you? Check if your /var/sysgen/master.d/scsi is configured correctly. If not, edit it. After that do a '/etc/autoconfig -v' and reboot. cd to /dev and do a './MAKEDEV' If that's too much at once, let's start with ...

err, yes, this was too obvious for me

I'll check that, but I'm still pretty sure it's an dd image.

Edit: file says 'text with garbage'

old dd image trouble

during cleanup I found an older dd image of some software & data on a disc. Unfortunately I can't really access it. It's no plain ISO image it seems like it's an efs image, but missing some iso header information. At least that's what fiddeling with mount leads me to and it would make sense, too...

So, I'll stick with MXI + SI

MXI & SI+TRAM

I'm thinking about doing a little upgrade on my SSI+SI Octane.

Now, did anyone try the combination MXI and SI+TRAM for a little longer? Should I do it or is the chance of melting down something too high?

[OT] WTB: HP Visualize J280/282/2240

a little bit OT, since this is obviously not an SGI, but a cool Unix workstation nevertheless, so I hope it's ok here ;)

I'm looking for an HP Visualize J280/J282 or J2240 - preferable from Germany or nearby northern Germany due to the weight of these beasts.
