Re: Crossover cable help needed.

Also note that any modern (optional for 100baseT and required for 1000baseT adapters) support auto MDI-X and any cable will work. Your linux machine most likely supports this and you won't need to make/buy a special cable.

Ugh, here I wandered in completely innocently. Could you label these with [SPORT] or something?

Re: Remote X with Irix

*unlurks* It's been rather a long time since I did any remote X11, but wouldn't it all go over XDMCP? Sun might have used their own openlook(or whatever it was called) system though. Anyway, XDMCP is the keyword I wanted to highlight here, xdm (and whatever flavour of xdm the terminal/thin client ru...

neko_pgsql-8.3.1 bug/suggestion

My octane started pausing every time I shut it down until I pressed enter and I narrowed it down to the init.d scripts neko_pgsql-8.3.1 installs; even if you're not running the server, it will still try to shut it down using su - $PGUSER -c [...] and the unprivileged user that it also sets up does h...

Re: Should I take the dive?

As others have said, before you go spending a lot of money on a SGI workstation (whatever the model) you really should think again to use it for anything serious. Even highly specced workstations are dog slow by modern standards, and while people here might be using them, it's pretty much all rosy-t...

Re: What piontless thing ar you doing right now?

Other than answering this post?-) Unifying all my tripod heads to Arca-swiss (a grand total of two). I also just finished moving my on-line photo collection to iSCSI rather than NFS because windows (which runs the raw developer) is shit at NFS. The iSCSI target is a file (on a level 5 raid), mounted...

Re: network interface problems

Isn't that netstat's job? Oh yeah! But since the Linux ifconfig shows the number of dropped packets I don't often think of netstat... :| Yet another of linux' "if your only tool is a hammer..." type scenarios... Apologies if this is obvious and you already confirmed this, Krokodil, but di...

Re: Audio: Condenser mics with SGI (Octane)

The power output socket on the back of the Octane is AFAIR for the speakers, I wouldn't try using it for anything else. Also, SGI wouldn't have expected you to sit next to an octane and record any quality audio; That would be done in the sound insulated recording booth, probably to DAT (or perhaps s...

Re: How to hide the toolchest in secondary display (dual head without xinerama) ?

You'll have to edit the xdm Xsession (or use your own .xsession file) because the code there is to start one for each "screen" (in X parlance)

A quick google tells me that FT_Stream_GetShort probably is in freetype
