Re: Dell Precision machines ...?

From what I see here, disagree. Maybe what gets shipped abroad is still hanging onto IBM's coat tails but the trend for Lenovo is like all Chinese products -- down. How they can do that so consistently puzzles me. Generally they buy a known good product then screw it up. well, I can only base this ...

Re: Dell Precision machines ...?

i'm currently in the process of aquiring a sun ultra 24 via the try&buy program but will take a closer look at the hp xw's as well. the apple would have been very interesting but doesn't fit into my rack (*cry*). well, without using a saw to get rid of the handles, at least. ;) if you liked you...

Re: performances tezro quad 700 Vs. quad 1ghz

unless there is other differences between these CPUs (cache size ?) They increased the Cache from 4MB to 16MB when going from 800MHz to 1GHz. On the other hand the 1GHz model is running the cache at only 1/3 of the CPU clock (i.e. 333MHz), while the 700 and 800MHz model are running it at 1/2 (i.e. ...

Re: Memory Usage

The osview command will provide a more detailed breakdown of the memory usage of the base OS. As joerg mentioned, it is most likely filesystem data, XFS does pretty aggressive caching if there is enough memory to waste :) "fs data" lists the amount of cached filesystem data, "fs ctl&q...

Re: Sites with longest running systems by avg. uptime last 7days

http://uptime.netcraft.com/up/today/top.avg.html Just found this url, and seems interesting, notice the number of Irix systems on this list, i don`t know if is relevant or not, but for shure is interesting ... what is more strange to have only 1 or 2 linux entries  humm. yeah, IRIX was qui...

Re: Another VPro resolution question

the v12 DCD is DVI-D not DV-I i went to the store bought a 40$ DVI-D (which is dual channel DVI) No. The DVI ports on the V12 and on the DCD are DVI-I, i.e. they carry both digital and analog signals. If that wasn't the case, nobody could connect an analog CRT to them :) With "dual channel&quo...

it is telling you that you'll need java2 1.5 ("Java 5") or newer to run this, the irix port is stuck at 1.4.1 though.. :(

Re: Another VPro resolution question

back on the vfo files, I tried a couple of the 1600x1200_better-than-60 versions. I'm using either a Dell P1110 or IBM P260 -- the case says one thing, pushing the blue button amidships on the control panel says another. Inside it's probably a TurtleEgg21 ; here is china after all. I can force fast...

Re: MLDonkey Version 2.5.11 Works With Nekoware...

Is there any chance that you can compile the latest version because I would guess that the problem should be solved then. I see that the latest version now is 2.9.3 Or can you think of a different reason why it would not take bigger files? Looks like that was a limitation in an older version of the...

Re: Another VPro resolution question

Btw, why don't you have a V12 or a DCD any more ? You're not leaving the fold or anything, are you ? No, I still have the Fuel around. It is only powered up when I need it though - I stopped using IRIX as main desktop some months ago, for various practical and economical reasons :( I just ended up ...

Re: Another VPro resolution question

Schleusel, are you around ? Kind of ;-) V12 with dcd shows available resolution / scan rates of 1600 x 1200 @ 60 hz and 2x1600x1200 @72 hz. But if you use the 2x choices half the screen is in the Great Void if you only use one display. How come no single-screen 1600 x 1200 choice at a refresh rate ...

Re: Fuel fans (l1 controller)

However, how do I turn off L1's environmental monitoring during boot time ? I didn't have time to do much tests (got to go to work) but the Fuel shuts itself down during boot time auto-test. Hmm, your replacement fan only has 56% of the throughput of the original fan - I suppose you are aware of th...

Re: Anyone have any luck playing DVD's?

I've tried your update of mplayer and it is great! ( we owe you a bundle... ) No, we owe skip a bundle :) I get hickups every 10 seconds or so..... Can anyone confirm this? I didn't see any obvious performance problems on my Fuel (600MHz V10 too). Maybe the drive is the problem.. hickups every 10 s...

Re: Anyone have any luck playing DVD's?

Did you get any further with the patch for Neko Mplayer? Sorry for the delay. I hardly get to power on my Fuel currently - my nekoware productivity is kind of suffering since I stopped using IRIX as my main platform some time ago ;( I've uploaded an updated neko_mplayer 1.0rc1 package that includes...
