He's a "Son of the sunny south!" (That's a quote from the book "An Infantryman in Stalingrad," regarding what Wehrmacht soldiers called soldiers of the Italian army, who were sadly and tragically hornswaggled into fighting the Red Army on the eastern front)... :|

Re: Stoopid Dell monitor

Cool, thanks! Somewhere in the wiki there's a hardware aggregator of flat screens that work with SOG, which is to say, flat screens that work with SOG without the green tint issue. But IIRC the list is a bit out of date and I (at least last time I looked) didn't see any that could do 1920x1200. Prob...

Re: Stoopid Dell monitor

And that's with a 13W3 to VGA converter? I'll have to check that out. I was kind of hoping the buy an HP LP2465, we've got a bunch of those at work but of course I have no idea if it will work with a V12. When it comes to hardware I'm kind of a bonehead. Dammit Jim I'm a doctor not a computer scient...

SOLVED: Stoopid Dell monitor

No need for anyone to reply to this, it is just a rant! So the cathode ray tube on my (admittedly fairly ancient) Sun X7136A has been getting pretty blurry so I decided to try using one of my innumerable 13W3 -> VGA converters to hook my Octane up to my Dell U2412M (which is the monitor I use ...

Re: WPA and WPA2 clients are all vulnerable to the KRACK attack.

OpenBSD was already patched a few months ago. Looks like the OpenBSD patch was in the 6.1 errata: "027: SECURITY FIX: August 30, 2017 State transition errors could cause reinstallation of old WPA keys." Link to the patch: https://ftp.openbsd.org/pub/OpenBSD/patches/6.1/common/027_net80211...

Re: Suddenly, a wild Octane appears!

I would think you'd be doing them a favor, eventually they're going to have to go back in there and dispose of all that stuff. That GE MRI machine alone could be worth a half a million dollars, and the MRI suite that houses it probably cost between 100,000 and 200,000 dollars...

Re: Intel backdoor: not a bug, a feature (buy a new processor!!!)

Looks like AMD is pretty sure they don't suffer from this vulnerability, this is in the changelog for Linux 4.14.12, released yesterday: AMD processors are not subject to the types of attacks that the kernel page table isolation feature protects against. The AMD microarchitecture does not allow memo...

Re: Intel backdoor: not a bug, a feature (buy a new processor!!!)

So wait, every Intel x86_64 CPU for the last 10 years has this flaw, even the newest ones? I was just about to buy an i5-8600K, is Intel going to offer fixed CPUs that fit the same socket? They don't appear to be too forthcoming with whatever they've got in mind from here on out...

I don't think there's anything to worry about. Yes, it's possible to build an expert system that is capable of beating a human at a board game, but an AI that not only exceeds, but is capable of overwhelming the entirety of the of the human presence on this planet? No conceivable way, not now, not l...

Re: SGI IRIX and computer graphics currently? What that should i use ?

Just my experience so YMMV but if you want to run a really kick-ass MIPS SGI system, I've got a 2x600 Octane2, and 4x700 Tezro and a 6x1000 Onyx4, guess which one is most useful? (And your first 2 guesses don't count)...

Re: So I bought an Altix 450...

You might want to PM member smj and ask him to take a look at this, he's got an Altix 450 running SLES 11 SP1.

Also, you've probably already got this but the Altix 450 System User's Guide is available here:

Re: Really nice Tezro for sale in Nevada (not mine)

Yeah I saw that, since it's in Las Vegas it might possibly be government surplus from the Nevada Test Site or Nellis Air Force Base, if they scrubbed the disk inadequately it could have retrievable super-double-secret Area 51 software on it...
