Re: Talk to me about Asia.

Hamei, if you've got the time, would you please rant some more? I found that really interesting reading. If OP wants to move somewhere, BTW, I'd say Denmark or Sweden is a pretty good bet, unless you have an irrational fear of taxes. The people are relatively friendly (though not exactly Middle East...

Re: Talk to me about Asia.

I hear the only thing more prestigious for ethnic malays than marrying malay royalty is marrying a white person. So if you're looking for a marriage of convenience, Malaysia might be a good bet...

Re: Kernel entry: "Kill IRIX compatibility"

I don't run Linux/MIPS so I had never tried it. A lot of the IRIX specific system calls just returned error values last time I looked at the code, and I don't expect it has progressed since. I had often wondered though - how far it would it get through the boot process if you replaced the IRIX kern...

Re: Is it possible to port WINE to IRIX?

dude, if you can port it up to IRIX. It'd be freakin damn awesome. I'd give you lots of kissed if you can make it lol  I'll call Valve first, just to be safe. You never know, they might be nice enough to grant us permission (but I doubt it) as it would be porting it to a dead-end platform that...

Re: mp3 player for IRIX

I've used mpg123 (command line) and possible mpd.

Indy is a lot of watts for an mp3 player, I have to say though.

In the 20's and 30's it was apparently a common position that the current banking system was antithetical to economic freedom, and even that the International Banks were responsible for the First World War. The poet Ezra Pound held such beliefs, but later in life made this statement: "re USURY:...

You mean using PC hardware? For x86 I would use FreeBSD but again, I don't want PCs at home. No RISC no fun :)

Open Solaris runs on SPARCs.

Re: Irix on PC was a way to go ...

it's always easy to judge with hindsight. And if you look at the how the industry looked 10-12-15 years ago, what was being said and predicted for the desktop space, I think what you'll find the most surprising is how little everything's changed: do you honestly think anyone - even at Intel - in 19...

Very nicely done, too.

To be honest, though, I've begun hate CDs almost as much as I hated floppies 10 years ago. I've got one of those Sun drives, and thought about doing this to my Indy, but really I don't see the point. Networking is what's for dinner.
