Some experiments....

Nekochaners, FYI, I am cross posting from MacRumors as these guys also seem to have an active forum: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=535659 I have got a bare bones motherboard and booted it off USB. Here is what Mac Pro NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT reports... # nvflash --version NVIDIA Firmwa...

Re: Any one using Nvidia Quadro FX 5600 on Mac Pro?

R-ten-k,

there are modified macintosh quadro fx 5600 roms available (search aqua-mac's rom archive). However these allow you to run GeForce 8800 as a Quadro fx 5600.

I have not seen any posts on running a real quadro fx 5600 on a hackintosh....
Do hackintoshes have EFI?

Cheers,

Re: Any one using Nvidia Quadro FX 5600 on Mac Pro?

squeen, one of the problems is that you cannot get an Quadro FX 5600 from Apple... They only provide it installed as an option in a Mac Pro CTO (configured to order) bundle. So in Australia that means spending a minimum of AUD $7000, ouch!! Makes a V12 look cheap ;-) . Also shows that Apple is very ...

Any one using Nvidia Quadro FX 5600 on Mac Pro?

Nekochaners, is there anyone out there using a Mac Pro (Quad Core/Early 2008 Model), with a Nvidia Quadro FX 5600 Graphics card? I am trying to get hold of the Apple/Nvidia EFI ROM contents. To do this you need to install card in PC and use Nvidia nvflash utility to read out the ROM. My understandin...

Offers for ultimate SGI Octane2 in Australia ...

Nekochaners, I have decided that it is time to move on from my SGI Octane2 box, as it is being replaced by Apple Mac Pro Quad Core. So I am looking for offers on my Ultimate SGI Octane2. This machine is configured to perfection (barring DM2/VBOB..). I would prefer to sell this all in one piece rathe...

Re: want xbow upgrade

jnolck,

Ok I will remove the boards and get them shipped off.
I will provide a payment request via e-bay when I know the exact shipping cost.
I do not think I will manage to get boards out and shipped until next weekend.

Cheers,

Re: want xbow upgrade

jnolck, just to be clear. I did not mean the entire empty chassis, which is very heavy and will cost over USD $100 to ship. You can either have the removable front plane (a six screw removal and replace job). which includes fan and disk cage or I will remove all the circuit boards which will mean yo...

Re: want xbow upgrade

I can provide this, for small charge ($20 + shipping), but do you just want boards or entire thing with disk cage? I ask because it is in Australia and someone here might provide for less by the time you ship with disk cages. It is likely to end in scrap heap otherwise... it as part of remains of pa...

Re: Strange xvm results with Fibre Channel Array

Hi Joerg, I already have command tag queuing and write caching enabled. I posted previous tests (with 3x300GB) here: http://forums.nekochan.net/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=13590 So irrespective of the test file size the read performance has gone from nearly 150 MB/Sec to only 40 MB/Sec, while write per...

Strange xvm results with Fibre Channel Array

Dr. Dave, Chris, Ian and other Fibre Channel Enthausiats, I am getting some puzzling results from my Fibre Channel Array. I have just added extra 300GB Hitachi drives and so deleted my old 3x300GB xvm volume and created a 4x400GB xvm volume instead. I then ran diskperf to see difference, which I wou...

DHCP

Nekochaners, I think the problem with DHCP resulting in a machine rename might be due to the DHCP options that are being used. I had problems with DHCP (a long time ago when I first used it on my machine) and got around them by changing the DHCP options after reading the RFC on the various flags. I ...

FATA

Nekochaners, I have been testing the Seagate "FATA" disks (ST35000FCV), these are 500GB with 2G FC-AL interface but only 7200RPM rotation. Here are the results from running with 4 of these striped: porcipine 1% diskperf -W -D -n "4 x 500GB" -c4m /usr/people/space2/test/test2 #---...

FATA not BETA

Chris & others, I have now tested a few more of the 500GB drives and have reached the conclusion that they are definiately FATA drives and appear to have been OEMed by HP, IBM and XYRATEX. The are certainly not BETA, as of the 5 drives I have bested only two have been fully operational. 2 - ok 1...
