While the blinkenlights installation instructions are helpful, I find that over at majix, they are much more palatable to an sgi newbie. Go http://obsolete.majix.org/irix/install-index.shtml and run through the options and see what's up. In particular, look at the fx config http://obsolete.majix.org...

I don't think anyone with an O2 (of any flavor CPU) is straying too far from the thread. I know I'm not. ;)

Well, he didn't destroy the G5. He gave the internals to his friend. If he likes what he did, so be it. If you don't like it. So be it.

It's his right to "destroy" his property as much as it's your right to bitch about it. ;)

Japenese keyboard help

OK, I picked up a Japanse keyboard (sgi P/N: 062-0054-001) for the O2. I've been using it for quite a bit without much hassle. Until last night when I realized that I don't have a "\" key available. Let me clarify. The "\" key is there, it just doesn't work. I have the keyboard set up as a US ASCII ...

BeOS was a *nix? ;)

blackcube, if you are serious about selling the O2 R5K drop me a line. I'm in the area (within 100 miles) and we may can do something. If you sell it to someone else, oh well. Good luck on the takin' it easy thang. :D

bobflappy states: You're right. If you've red Scott Tarr's post in this thread, some people find that it gives a "juvenile" aspect to this site If you will note, I did mention that as a rule, this is the case. However, this place is different. I don't give a flying fsck if the content is decorated i...

Not sure if this'll help you, but if and when you decide to get some chips for that O2 project, drop a post in here. I'm interested in paying for at least one if not more.

Video Storage Solutions for O2 (Medea specific)

Ok, so I've looked at Medea for video solutions for my O2s. However, after looking at Medea's Video RAID line, I'm now just confused on this. What causes the confusion is the Media "compatibility guide". Glancing at it, you think, "great, this stuff will be just fine" but getting a little deeper int...

It is every memory chip. I've devised heatsinks that I've installed on them but now the damn thing won't even boot up. I'll have a go at it next weekend, I imagine. I don't have event viewer since all of this happened during the install of the OS . Anyway, I've already packed the machine away for fu...

320 VW RAM hot to touch?

OK, I've had this 320 VW for about 3 months sitting and doing nothing. I just haven't had much time to futz with it and have recently started to piddle with it some. I've changed the PROM to 1.005 which is needed to mod it the way I want to mod it. However, I've not done anything mod-wise to it yet....

Whatever you do, please do not "toss it out". I'm sure there are people on this forum that may want to purchase some or all of that machine. I'm not sure about the RM5200, but on R5000s there is a jumper that can be moved that helps with this sort of problem. I just sold my R5000 or I would take a p...

I'm not the most versed of IRIX geeks, but have you looked over your conflicts and seen any commonalities? When you find several that are related to each other, type 'remove' press enter, then the subsystem that is causing the problem. Eventually, you will find that the number of conflicts gets smal...
