Got my 4x128MB kit ($40) from "parkviewind" in the mail today. Quick shipping and overall excellent seller. Should any more become available I'd recommend him... especially as the last non-"buy-it-now" 512MB kit went for over $170!

I have to agree with nekonoko here. Only list applications where there are certain requirements/difficulties to get it to run on the O2 (software/IRIX version e.g.). Avid Matador doesn't work on the O2 past a certain IRIX update, Barco Creator 7.1 is only supported on an 6.3 O2 etc. If you are just ...

I'm not done with law-school yet, and can't vouch for every country in the world, but; I. The basic copyright, including all redistribution rights, stays with the author for (at least) 50 (often expanded to 70) years after his/her death, due to the Berne convention (not because of Disney, or "t...

I used to have both a Mamiya RZ 67 and a Bronica RF645 (rangefinder), but sold them before the price of MF gear went through the cellar. Now I only have a OM-4 left for film, and mostly use a Ricoh GR Digital for everything else. As for the "quality issue"; I have never, ever, been able to...

Well, isn't nicte saying that the 300mhz -works- with 6.4, but is reported as a r10k? I would guess the problem lies with the later MXE graphics, or the digital video board, as he mentioned.

But I'm curious as to what software we're talking about here; is it really locked to the 6.4 release?

I tried the Eclipse demo, but found it very unintuitive compared to PS et al. As for undo-levels, I haven't found them yet. Well; actually there is a feature advertised as "unlimited undo", but it's basically a glorified "save". You have to start it manually, and then it only rem...

I think the June/July 1999 patchset for 6.4 included support for the r12k 300mhz, and by extension I guess a dual r12k 400mhz would also work... not sure about r14k. If your software is finicky about 6.5 (like some of the custom hardware drivers for Barco Creator e.g.) you might want to use the patc...

Well it has a decent brush module, though I mostly use it for making mattes/applying corrections with a brush... not exactly painting! (The matte was inverted in the conversion process... don't ask me why!) barco_creator_03.jpg Notice how you can tear off the menus, and place them on your workspace....

Damn, I would be pissed if I had bought Shake 4.0 for $2999! (or rather $3048 with the 4.1 patch included!)

I thought about buying Combustion ($700 or so?), but now it looks like I might as well get Shake with a dual-core Mac mini "dongle"! ;)

Barco Creator

I remember this being mentioned in some photoshop tutorial I read back in 1996-97. So, when I finally had the opportunity to pick up a piece of prepress history, I couldn't resist! :D (forget my complaint about the amount of software postings in the creative category, for now ;) ) barco_creator_01.j...

Creative SGI users unite!

Like many others I bought my SGI for it's history as a creative tool, not primarily as a UNIX box. Compared to a musician, using a SGI is akin to recording your latest album using old analog equipment and tube amps (i know, poor analogy ;))... But often people are more interested in upgrading to &qu...
