Re: Talos Secure Workstation

First, a caveat, I build websites for a living and dabble in modern VR and vintage SGIs as my current hobbies, so my needs are fairly sparse. I love the security aspect of it, and that it is as close to owning a modern machine as you can get. However, I'm left wondering what to do with it. I suppose...

Re: Your first SGI encounter

1998, SGI O2 named Nemesis... actually, that may have been the lab admin's handle. Oh well, I remember the SGI clearly. I was one of the only people who really used it. Most people seemed to prefer the crappy Dell beige boxes with scroll wheels.

Re: WTB PS2 Keyboard/Mouse

I have an original SGI graphite set, kb & mouse, typically used with Indigo2 and Indy. Mint condition, cleaned from dust etc. 50 euro + shipping. Thanks, but I'm trying to avoid shipping from the EU. PS/2 keyboards from the first half of the '90s will usually work nicely Great, I'm willing to b...

Re: Any experiences VGA/13W3 to HDMI/DVI converter?

I did some random purchasing, have had some success. Tried one of the cheap VGA-HDMI boxes (£12 off Amazon - https://tinyurl.com/yaxj4gnn ) .. didn't work. No signal at all. Not terribly surprising. With one of the handmade cables from ebay above (£30 inc shipping), it suddenly comes to life! Have ...

WTB PS2 Keyboard/Mouse

My wife tossed out a box that she thought was full of old packing materials. Sadly, it had my SGI PS/2 keyboard and mouse buried in the bottom. Does anybody in the SF bay area have a set they want to part with on the cheap? I plan to make a trip to Weirdstuff this weekend. I doubt they will have SGI...

[ebay] Button Box

I was trolling around ebay looking for a replacement SGI keyboard/mouse and stumbled upon a button box for sale (150 EUR). I have no clue if these are rare or desirable. I do not need or want it at the moment, but I thought I would post it here because I have not seen it on ebay while searching arou...

Re: Vintage Computer Festival August 5 and 6

HJ, did I meet you at the Big Apple? It is possible. I do not know what anybody looks like, or even their real names. I assume by "Big Apple" you mean the Network Servers, not the prototype 17 Macbook Pro? Every time I walked by there was a huge crowd, so we probably spoke, but I doubt ei...

Re: A curious proposal

Hah, I see nobody here recommends JavaScript. I know C coders tend to hate it, but it is actually a fairly powerful functional programming language.

Re: Vintage Computer Festival August 5 and 6

Yes, a good time was had. There seemed to be several folks from the SeaTac area, and plenty who are familiar with trinitron's relentless hunger to possess all things Symbolics that still exist in the world... Thought of pentium when I saw the X68000. The restored Xerox Alto from Y Combinator was th...

Re: My first 320

I have been looking for a reasonably priced MLA for a while, been thinking about trying to hacking something together with an LVDS board (ex. http://www.ebay.com/itm/161320408901 ). Maybe one day, when I have time to play around again.

Oh, interesting, I just saw your pictures in the other thread. You are definitely missing the header. I did not even realize the header was an option. On the other hand, you got dual CPU, 1GB RAM, and the VRM, so pretty lucky on the whole.

Re: WTB 1600sw adapter for Sgi 320 and/or Fuel

I thought the 320 had the LDI connector built-in. Mine does, it is part of the motherboard. I do not own a Fuel, so I cannot speak to that one.

* edit: correct mistyped connector name *
