Re: Dallas chips

So general weirdness. When I set the PWR jumper with the new Dallas chip, it does power on, but my monitor won't sync. When I set the jumper back, it won't turn on at all. So...until I can find out why, I've decided to just use my nekkid O2 as a parts machine. I moved most of his ram over to my &quo...

Re: Dallas chips

I've installed a DS1687-5+ in my O2. It first it did not power on. Same as praetor242 observed. No reaction from the power button at all. After closing the jumper directly below the DS1687-5+ labeled "Power Up", the O2 powered up just fine. Thanks tomvos. I'll try that. I've held off on g...

Re: Dallas chips

I'll try the jumper. I heard back from Maxim

Yes they are, the only difference is the RoHS for the "+"

So you were right. It's an RoHS part.

Re: Dallas chips

Yup. It powers up with the original chip. Not the + version.

Re: Dallas chips

No blinking light codes. It just won't power on if the new chip is in.

Re: Dallas chips

Nou :p I looked at the schematics for both the + and not +. They don't really seem _all_ that different. I'll see what Maxim says. But when a computer says it's 1983...it's probably the clock. And just given the age of these machines I got samples of the D1687-5+ because that's what they had as a re...

Re: Dallas chips

Well, I know it's bad :p I have a support ticket in with Maxim to find out if the D1685-5+ is backward compatible.

Re: Dallas chips

Because the time on that system is really wrong. It says it's December 22nd 1983. Unless I'm being stupid and IRIX sets it. IDK.

Dallas chips

I had ordered new Dallas chips for my nekkid O2, the only one is DS1687-5+, not the DS1687-5. When I put in the new chip, the O2 doesn't turn on. Where can I get the exact Dallas chip it needs?

There is one of these on eBay, and...I kinda like using my SGI machines. I agree with Fox. Image the drive, or replace it. It's not much fun having a machine you can't use.

Packaging documention

Are there any packaging documents or HOWTOS?

I've build a newer version of SSH (and associated dependencies) using MIPSPro, and would like to contribute to the community.

Re: Turning your back on windows

I'm completely Windows free. I have my IRIX machines, my Macs, and my Raspis. My mom's system is Windows, but I never use it, and I've about got her talked into getting a Mac. Cuz Windows 10 sux.
