Any interest in making some to sell? I would buy a couple if you do have an interest.

Re: Sunfire v880 with XVR-4000

Your v880 even has those bottom side panels!.. often those are missing and just show shiny metal. QEMU runs on Solaris/SPARC.. if you wanted to run some Intel-based OSs. A more modern firefox and OpenOffice than what IRIX has. This system will be very usable even in a modern sense. I have some V480'...

Re: Best workstation to start with?

I have gone through a lot of SGI systems in an attempt to find a good daily driver (still in 2017). The best all-around I have found is an Octane2 with Vpro (even the lowest Vpro 6 is fine) so you can get 1920x1200 resolution (versus an SGI O2 stuck at a lower res). Power consumption is not too bad ...

Re: Mini-PC fit in an SGI hard drive bay?

Asus miniPC (N62 model) fits in perfectly. See below image.. I pushed the Asus miniPC farther back inside the Octane to show how well it fits.. dont mind the dust in the photo, this Octane is a spare I have. Regarding cooling.. the Asus miniPC does not seem to get hot.. if anything its barely warm a...

Re: Mini-PC fit in an SGI hard drive bay?

I too cannot get more than 16bit with nekoware's version of rdesktop to any windows system. However, I do get 24bit color (across the pond uses colour ;) with nekoware's version of rdesktop connecting to VirtualBox's Remote Display feature (opens up a port with RDP for the specific Virtual Machine a...

Re: Mini-PC fit in an SGI hard drive bay?

Small update.. I have an Asus UN62 mini PC, a lot more powerful than the Intel ComputeStick but much more expensive.. it has an Intel i3 chip (they do come with an i5 too), 8GB RAM, 512GB SSD.. it can slide into the back of an octane's PCI cage slot and could act as a sort of hardware hypervisor for...

Re: SoftWindows 95: which Apps are working???

Whats working in SoftWindows 95? I have a large collection of old games and apps media, many with original boxes.. so I was able to test various apps and games in SoftWindows 95 on IRIX. This type of test is not the same as testing apps in Qemu/Bochs, BasiliskII(macos), UAE(amiga)..etc.. as SoftWind...

Re: QEmu on IRIX, bye bye softwindows 95.

For years I never found QEMU for IRIX (compiled) anywhere until I started digging into GeneratriX's decade+ old SlimDesktop tardist/packages that were still available on this forum. And I was surprised to find a qemu IRIX binary in it. It is an older 0.6.1 version, but it does give possibilities now...

Re: LGeneral (Panzer General) compiled for IRIX

Looks like sound always worked. My Octane was set to default audio output to AES/optical .. and it seems SDL-based apps do not agree and go out on regular analog out.

Re: How frequently you use your SGI (in 2017)?

uunix: It seems that is a linux rdesktop problem too if you do some google searches. There are some gpedit.msc or registry mods that 'limit' the max color depth but what we need is a minimum setting and not a max, however many others online seem to say that fixed it for them (no luck for me). I do f...

oneko 1.2 MIPSPro compiled

This is an oldie, and I am sure many others have compiled this on IRIX.. but I could not find a pre-compiled one around (maybe I am bad at searching?.. if so then my apologies), so here it is. Its a single binary.

Re: getopt_long for IRIX

For anyone who has trouble with getopt_long and IRIX.. I know we have a Wiki on this that says "google around for the example code to implement this" .. which was not very helpful for me. Granted, once I figured it out, it now seems easy but it took some time for me to get to that point. I...

Re: LGeneral (Panzer General) compiled for IRIX

So I was able to take the DOS version of panzer general, convert it, and runs fine on IRIX's compiled lgeneral. On ubuntu, I ran lgc-pg --separate-bridges DAT (DAT is the directory from panzer general and --separate-bridges is needed to get a bridge.bmp (and a couple others) file that seems to be re...
