Re: Why can't we sell/trade original commercial software?

We are stuck in a catch 22. We need a site, not affiliated with neckochan whatsoever run by person[s] willing to take the chance. Everyone needs to know about it, but we cannot advertise it here. And here is where everyone comes for SGI related info... What we need is .. 'the purple web'.. or blue,...

Re: your latest purchase

Those are nice. My father has one from a Soviet clock. Is yours beige, with black background, a red star and the wind-up under the hands? This is how it looks. It is a heavy clock weighing several pounds. No plastic parts at all, except the spacers between the metal plate and the movement. The artw...

Re: Indigo 2 panic with ethernet

Don't despair you can always pick up an aui transceiver and try that. Failing that, check with Krokodil as he was selling a motherboard Yup. $50.00 USD for an Indigo2 IMPACT mainboard with R4400 250MHZ processor! It will be going on Ebay soon otherwise, because it's sitting around taking up space a...

Re: your latest purchase

Got a submarine clock for $200. A wind up mechanical one from a now defunct company called Sovietski. It is a Russian 5-24M marine clock. When I got it hands didn't move, despite winding it with the key. So I took it apart and found the clock works, except that the gear running up to the escapement ...

Re: Several Origin 300s 4x600 / 2g/ gig-e/ RAD

Not much on the IRIX side since the power supply on my Fuel gave up the ghost, and I haven't had the time to replace it with the ATX PSU adapter I got from kubatyszko. I do have a few Indys, Indigos, and O2s kicking around, but I really should get my act together and find some new homes for them. I...

Alas I already have an Indigo2 IMPACT R10K. Can't take in another one. But I'm confident Dodoid will give it a good home.

Re: How do you explain....

I have occasionally heard that as well. I just explain that it's fun and the computers are more interesting than modern ones. They are more involved and that makes them fun. Lets face it. Modern computers are bland and not very exciting. But the older ones and SGI's in particular have interesting an...

Re: Hardware is Cheap, Programmers are Expensive

Check out MenuetOS as an example of this. Written by one guy as a hobby project, contains stuff like games, a web browser, transparency support for window themes, and drivers for common hardware. Supports up to 64gb of ram, lots of cores, x64, audio, etc. The entire OS, including all of this, is 1....
