Re: SGI IRIX and computer graphics currently? What that should i use ?

So the summary of this topic would be: SGI still can and should be used in CGI professional since Octane 2 onwards and has no way to deny? It's not an old one, it's an option. Probably not a great idea. With SGI IRIX now being dead for over 11 years and the support of SGI hardware being dropped alm...

Re: What HP/DEC/Compaq do we have.

Can't remember if I mentioned it here before or not. But Alphaserver DS10, 466MHZ, running VMS 8.4, with Compaq Esoniq sound card, 256MB RAM, Oxygen 2D accelerator and one 137GB SCSI hard drive. With the right software it will play WAV and MP3 files, but video playback is awful with the stone age mu...

Re: SGI IRIX and computer graphics currently? What that should i use ?

If you want to experience an old school unix machine and aren't really interested in graphics, then why not just get yourself one of the DEC Alpha machines then? Alphas cost far more for what you get. Go on eBay and price out a Tezro vs a 21364 powered Alphaserver. You will pay many times the Tezro...

I haven't dared to open my Indigo2 PSU. Although so far it appears to run fine.

Re: A smear campaign against nekochan.net mods on reddit

Damn. Why'd you have to push it Carlo? It didn't have to end this way... I didn't see the doxxing threat he made before it was deleted. But I imagine that applies to me as well. I'm not worried about it. Doxxing mitigation is part of standard operating procedures for me, particularly with people I d...

Tried Vivaldi. I like it. Hopefully they keep it that way and the dopes stay away - the ones who don't appreciate things for what they are.

Re: Best workstation to start with?

Hi nekochaners, No flames or fights.... but I really to think is is hard to go past Octane as a great sgi box in terms of its combination of 64 bit irix support, modular and trouble free hardware versatility and connectivity, graphics & media flexibility and great design. Having recently been p...

Re: I've Had It With Firefox - Alternatives I'm Exploring

The thing is a pain in the ass now. Leave it open for a few days and it hogs tons of RAM. Right now it's using 5.5-7.5 GB... It often jerks and lurches for no apparent reason other than it's consuming all of the resources. Once it uses all the resources it can, it will crash itself and leave a turd ...

Perhaps that's the reason my N64 wont output to my O2. Running 6.5.30 on there.

I usually resort to pushing the tray all the way in with moderate force. That keeps it closed 95% of the time. :) Yes. I know it's not the best thing for the motor, but it was already kinda busted when I got it.

Re: your latest purchase

Only problem with abandoning *nix is that the alternatives have been getting worse and worse. Windows 8 was so awful that it finally drove me off my XP system simply by demonstrating that things would never, ever get better there; if I had to use Win10 as a daily driver I'd slit my wrists. And OSX ...

Re: Best workstation to start with?

You don't want to start with an Indy. Too underpowered in most cases. High speced ones will cost you and you can get something better for your money anyways. Sometimes you can find O2's on Ebay for practically nothing, but beware, the exterior plastic is really as fragile as people here say. Sometim...
