Re: Ars on reality of using old 'puters & SGI accelerator id

Has Classic given up on Classilla? Or is TenFourFox just taking up all of your time?

Re: The Fuel killer, that's me

Its not you Classic, Fuels are just terribly temperamental. That's why I'm going for Tezros or O350s from now on. Just aren't worth the unreliability.

Anyways if you do break something with an Indy I have plenty of spare parts...

Re: Why didn't SGI keep IRIX into Itanium?

Understand Kumba I'm not against individual developers of GNU/Linux, but all my research points to real innovation coming from BSD, and only questionable enhancement from the GNU/Linux side that takes several attempts to get a half-working solution. Examples: Device handling: Devfs did need replacem...

Re: Why didn't SGI keep IRIX into Itanium?

CLI that is anti-user by design? Do you mean bash? All inclusive of the GNU commandline tools included with a GNU/Linux distro. Examples: Sed: BSD and Solaris sed don't have issues with syntax, which makes commands portable between them. However I ALWAYS have to make adjustments to the -i syntax wh...

Re: Why didn't SGI keep IRIX into Itanium?

Maxxdesktop/5DWM is useless for non GNU/Linux users. I for one don't want an awesome interface over a CLI that is anti user by design and pisses all over what makes UNIX great Beyond that I'd really like to have their X11R6 implementation opened if nothing else. There are still some shortcomings of ...

Re: Why didn't SGI keep IRIX into Itanium?

At this point I just hate to see the source of IRIX remain unreleased and bitrotting in Rackable's hands. IRIX under BSD or CDDL would be awesome.

Re: Wanted: SGI Octane Light Bar modding service

Thank you Japes, I tested with a multimeter and it works, but my frontplane appears to not be working with it. :/

I'll have to get another front plane eventually.

Re: SPARC M7

So in a nutshell it has specialised instructions and a core for database usage, and if these can be utilised, it will do better at the limited market of running OracleDB software? I know that's a gross oversimplification but I'm not an electrical engineer so I can't say I really am well acquainted w...

Why didn't SGI keep IRIX into Itanium?

Was it because they wanted a fresh start, or did they think that they'd never be able to port IRIX for whatever reason, or did they just think it wouldn't be competitive.

Re: Linux desktop recommendations?

hamei, don't lump BSD in with BeOS or Loonix please. Netflix, Juniper and Sony all use BSD, and without BSD, GNU/Linux wouldn't have had a network stack.
