SGI Indy Expansions

Got an Indy in a recent haul and I just opened it up. It has XL graphics, An 180MHz R5000SC and what looks to be 128Mb RAM ( Gotta fire it up later ) So I ask my fellow Indy owners of NekoChan the following: What upgrades should I go for on the GIO32 slots? Anyone here messed with the N64 board that...

Re: Mplayer "Error While Decoding Frame" Every. F-ing Time

Just an update that -fs or none there is no difference. I'm guessing that with the 300MHz CPU in there that may be the bottleneck? Video plays fine when converted to Xvid on my server. I'll do some more digging

Re: questions

Oh, I thought the VCD/MPEG2 card for the Saturn simply added more texture memory but I guess you're right. My bad.

Speaking of playback back when my Octane had MXE graphics it couldn't play DivX well at all, but since moving to 600 MHz R14k and v6 graphics it can play it just fine.

Re: Operating System Options for Altix/Prism Systems

Bad news fellas - 11 CURRENT release notes for FreeBSD indicate they're dropping the IA-64 port.

I have a local source for Altix 350s though and have asked the NetBSD project to add me to their Hardware available page.

No, sorry for the misunderstanding: I wasn't saying claim in a bad way. I was saying claim as in what you said, not meant to be taken hostile at all. I'm just confirming what has been said. Yes, you can use a maximum of IRIX 6.5.22 on these machines.

Re: questions

Yes, but the CPU doesn't play as much of a part in decoding MPEG2. I can decode MPEG2 on a Sega Saturn with a weak SH-2 CPU, all that is needed is a texture card for hardware decoding. Your video card is the bottleneck on the Indy. Nothing will change that.

Prices reduced. Free for local pickup. I changed my mind on scrapping them.

Re: questions

In addition the IMPACT series are a magnitude more powerful than the XL/XZ graphics. I think the CPU has nothing to do with it here.

What Classic says is correct. You're limited to 6.5.22 if you have an Indigo2 and Indy as you claim.

Re: questions

Great. And as for C++ compiler that is free, G++ is available. However if you need some sort of IDE you are gonna need to find a copy of MIPSPro and install the C++ front end and the IDE it comes with. I personally see IDEs as unnecessary but to each his own.

Re: questions

The reason the Indy can't play the video as smoothly is because the lack of texture memory will slow it down as well as the CPU is many times slower than the one in the Indigo2. I recommend leaving the Indigo2 to playing video ;)

Re: neko_librsvg-2.18.2 missing dependancy?

This is why someone needs to build a ports like system for IRIX. There is pkgsrc but it seems most of the packages don't build. Very disappointing as I find tardists a pain in the arse to deal with. Sadly with a dying toolchain and frozen development it seems we are slipping into BeOS territory, whe...
