Re: Are we a dying breed?

SGIs will continue to become more and more niche, the simple reason being that they are becoming less useful in the modern world due to their age - and mainly due to the web IMO. Similarly as the hardware grows older, failures become more common. I can understand why for some people who've had SGIs ...

Re: 900Mhz Fuel and Octane 2 husk for sale

According to the Fuel manual, a blinking red/white lightbar means "Graphics configuration error". Fuels can be finicky systems, you could try removing and re-seating the graphics card to see if this will help. Failing that, your null modem cable should hopefully provide more info once it a...

Re: 900Mhz Fuel and Octane 2 husk for sale

i powered the system up and I get a solid red light then it blinks white and no image displays on the screen. I'm sorry for no posting this earlier but I've been very busy. How long did you leave it running? The red LED to start with is normal, then the blinking white LED is the system performing i...

Re: How frequently you use your SGI (in 2017)?

My SGIs were used a couple of times a week until earlier this year (usually 2-3 hours of use at a weekend). Then what with moving house (lots of DIY jobs to do), and getting a puppy, I have to admit they've not been used as regularly over the last few months. Maybe a couple of times a month? I expec...

Re: A smear campaign against nekochan.net mods on reddit

RF: I agree with you. I initially found Ive to be a bit odd and quirky, but he did post some interesting things in the past. Problem is the guy just cannot seem to control his tongue and never ever thinks he's in the wrong. I've never once seen him apologise for anything. I get that with English not...

Re: A smear campaign against nekochan.net mods on reddit

Thanks Hakimoto, I'm sure many of us appreciate the transparency here. I'm not going to get involved with this guy's disputes between Dexter and Ian as frankly, I don't know the whole story there. If either of them want to set the record straight on Reddit, it's probably best it comes from someone w...

Re: Fuel fixer uppper

Fuels can be very finicky systems as you probably know. A few years ago I had issues with my Fuel randomly not booting, occasionally crashing and shutting down whilst in use, plus other general bits of misbehaviour - although admittedly it did always at least try to power up when I tried. In the end...

Re: Fuel - on board network connector failed

If the onboard network is toast, you could use this as an excuse to put a Gigabit Ethernet card in the Fuel. I upgraded my own Fuel this way last year and don't use the onboard Ethernet any more.

Re: Your first SGI encounter

Teesside University in the UK. My dad had taken on a job as assistant technical manager of their virtual reality centre and when I was on school holidays around 1996/1997 or so, he took me in one day to see the place (I would have been around 13 years old). A year or so later I spent a week there on...

Re: how things should be shipped properly

Yeah, you're always limited. My company ships a lot of stuff around Europe. Most arrives fine, but we've had a 24" monitor who's box was clearly pierced by something long and sharp, and a pallet that somehow ended up being partially crushed from one side (amazingly only one docking station, key...
