Re: your latest purchase

Does anybody actually like modern lenovos, with their touchstrip in place of fn-keys, garbage trackpoint buttons, garbage trackpads, spyware bundled software, garbage keyboards? No. That's why my current laptop is still a heavily upgraded Lenovo X201. 16:10 screen, classic keyboard, trackpad with b...

Re: your latest purchase

If this turns out to be accurate and it's still a 16:9 screen - and a buttonless touchpad as well for that matter (and I'm not seeing any status LEDs either), then I'll be keeping my credit card in my pocket. I do NOT want a crappy, cheapo watching-TV-oriented 16:9 panel on my laptop - period. Apple...

Re: How can Apple reclaim its dominance over PC-based workstations?

I have loved some, but not all of apples products, but sadly to say they are truly becoming purely consumer orientated and that will ultimately be the end of them if they arn't careful. It really does't pay to be a fanboy if it's not in your best interest as a customer, and if they continue to drop...

Re: How can Apple reclaim its dominance over PC-based workstations?

I agree it'd be good, but it also flies in the face of Apple's recent approach to locking everything down. Slowly but surely more and more of their systems have moved from changeable components to soldered down ones - usually so Apple can make more money by encouraging people to purchase higher spec...

Re: your latest purchase

Windows 7 did install on it, but it misbehaved in a number of ways. It used to hang for nearly 5 minutes during bootup, I experienced semi-regular lockups from it in use, used to take absolutely ages to shut down, etc. Tried updating all the drivers, installing the latest Apple BootCamp bits on it, ...

Re: your latest purchase

Well, I've just bought a NUC for myself. Core i5-7260U (trying to bodge Windows 7 onto this will be fun!), 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD and a 2TB rust spinner for data. Should arrive in a week's time, so I can have some fun trying to get it running, migrate everything over from my Mac Mini, and hopefully get ...

Re: your latest purchase

It's not released yet, but there's a Lenovo blog post confirming that it is happening, and there has been a sneaky picture or two on El Reg as well. Not sure of all the details of it mind you, but the classic keyboard and a none-16:9 screen are pretty much confirmed.

Re: your latest purchase

I'm busy trying to decide what my next purchase (or two) will be as I'd like to make a bit of a significant investment in computing hardware this year. Mainly as the last time I spent any significant sum on things was several years ago when I got my Fuel. Hence, trying to decide between the followin...

Re: WTB : SGI compliant female 13W3 to male VGA cable (short length OK)

If you're struggling to find one, another option is a 13W3 gender changer. Will cost another $25 or so, but worth considering if all else fails.

Wow, I think my wife would have a fit if I tried to install my O2 onto my bedside table :D

That must be a noisy/cosy room!

My room is toasty enough with just my Indigo2 and PC on at the moment :)

Re: How frequently you use your SGI (in 2017)?

Well, I've had my Fuel and Indigo2 both on during the last week, in fact the Indigo2 is on right now playing music. For some reason, it does sound better than my PC for music. Also been trying to compile some XMMS plugins with varying degrees of success...

I agree with uunix on this. I have the later granite keyboard and mouse, and its definitely the nicest way to interact with your SGI!
