Hmm, I'll give that a shot.

Re: For trade: RS/6000s (7043 43p model 140)

I suppose I could upload directly to the forum, but uploading at a larger size wouldn't do much good because my camera isn't that great (1024 or 1280 would be about the highest meaningful resolution from it.) If there's something you'd like to see in more detail, I could certainly take some closeups...

Re: So I nabbed a 164LX Alpha board...

Aside from the Adaptec SCSI controller (which works fine anyway,) I've got a Diamond DM975 video card, a 3Com 3C905C-TXM 10/100 NIC, and a Sound Blaster AWE64 Gold. All of it's on the HCL I got from the Alpha 2k CD, so it should hopefully be no problem once I get 2000 installed, but NT 4.0...I dunno...

For trade: RS/6000s (7043 43p model 140)

I got this RS/6000 from the recycle center on a whim, but it turns out that it can only run AIX, which isn't my area of interest. So I might as well send it to a good home, rather than have it sit around taking up space... rs6000.jpg The unit. It's slightly dirty, but otherwise in excellent shape. T...

That's just glorious, man. Reading up on the VAXStation 100s, I'm intrigued - were they X terminals, or some proprietary DEC standard?

Re: So I nabbed a 164LX Alpha board...

Got NT 4.0 and FX!32 installed on this over the last couple days - unfortunately, I'm gonna have to get some more RAM before I can put 2000 on there (though the installer does boot fine, so I'm optimistic about that.) Interesting so far, but I'm irritated that none of the drivers for my additional h...

Re: The Brain from Planet Arous

Yah I've seen it, it's good! John Agar is legendary for the slight amount of work he did in this genre (mostly his 57 year Hollywood career was in straight/serious roles) but if you like him in this you also want to see "Zontar: The Thing from Venus," "Curse of the Swamp Creature,&qu...

Re: Nabbed an RS/6000 7043/43p, figuring out what to do with

Yeah...AIX really isn't my area of interest, though (and if I do get the urge to play around with old RISC UNIX workstations, I've got a nice Sun Ultra II already...) I'll probably pass it on...

Aw, damn. Huh. Guess I'll have to find another use for it...unless someone would like to trade for a PPC system that does run NT?

I find it amusing to run Windows on esoteric hardware ;) Besides, I have neither the root password for this system nor AIX install/rescue media with which to set up an install I can use.

Re: Nabbed an RS/6000 7043/43p, figuring out what to do with

Okay, finally got it plugged in and test-booted. It's an AIX 4.3 system from a local clinic, with 64MB RAM, a 9GB hard drive, and a DDS3 tape drive (in addition to CD-ROM and floppy disk.) Not bad at all for NT's system requirements. The thing I'm curious about is that it reports having a "Powe...

Nabbed an RS/6000 7043/43p, figuring out what to do with it

Got this for free at the recycle center today. Haven't gotten a chance to see what's in it yet, other than that it's 233MHz (according to the label,) and there's only one DIMM (which means that RAM's anywhere from 16-128MB) and no video card. I see that it's on the HCL for Windows NT 4.0, so I'm con...

It's definitely a serious movie and not a spoof (though it's packed with little funny bits that lighten the mood but don't get in the way,) but it's not dour and joyless like so many modern blockbusters...

Pacific Rim

Go. See. This. Movie. If you have even a sliver of geek or B-movie fan in you or even just want to see spectacle blockbusters that take joy in their premise again instead of being constantly grimy and dour, do not miss this movie. It's a note-perfect homage/tribute/mashup/fan film for mecha anime a...
