Re: Unhappy Octane frontplane, capacitors leaking. Anyone spec'ed replacements?

SMD electrolytic capacitors are made in standard sizes, so you need to measure the diameter (as with a caliper). They also have standard capacitance and voltage series. One problem with markings is that each supplier uses a different convention: some will print the capacitance in uF, while others pr...

Re: Fragged my friends fuel

I'm glad it worked for you! do you think I should read the address before this point and see if it has no reference to XFSB or a reference to a raw partition, or does the XFSB lable only shown at the very start of the partition? Disk structures have "magic numbers" for identification, much...

I didn't watch the whole compilation—are all the wraks Citröen 2CVs? :P
That has to be a huge advantage of being in America: no French cars.

Re: Fragged my friends fuel

If you want to go that route, which in the circumstances seems to be a rational option, you would do this: 1. insert 6.5 install tools CD 2. stop for maintenance/command prompt >> dksc(0,4,8)sash64 sash: dksc(0,4,7)stand/fx.64 -x fx: (dksc) fx: ctlr# = (0) fx: drive# = (1) fx: lun# = (0) fx> d fx/de...

Re: Fragged my friends fuel

It appears you have a similar problem to another recent visitor: http://forums.nekochan.net/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=16731777 My advice in that thread would apply here also. You have likely blown away the volume header by overwriting it with a PC Master Boot Record (possibly as a result of Windows fa...

Re: Rising NeXTStation prices

I purchased an Indy in working condition for $50 just a month ago. So from my perspective, prices haven't increased: I would not have paid more for any Indy. Years ago, I paid over $1500 for an Indigo2. Would I pay that much for one today? I think you are dreaming.

Speaking of odd prices:

What do you make of this Tandy 100: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-RADIO-SHACK-TRS-80-Model-100-COMPUTER-Portable-works/172747974546 (everything in an eBay link after the item number is for tracking, and has been deleted as a courtesy to the readers.) My best guess is that the external battery/ROM ...

The disk partitioning scheme (and the volume header) was developed by MIPS Computer Inc for RISC/os. You can see this in the header file comments.

do all the packets have ACK FIN turned on? That isn't a connection request, it's attempting to close a connection.

Re: Maxx interactive desktop emulates Indy?

Use the search function. There are 19 threads about it going back to 2007. Edit: In case it isn't clear from the website, MaXX is just a replacement for the Indigo Magic Desktop. It certainly doesn't emulate Irix in any way shape or form, although it was encumbered by some SGI intellectual property ...

Re: Indigo Fresh Install Problems

You may already know this, but the PROM Monitor can't list EFS or XFS volumes. Sash is needed to do that.
So you could type

Code: Select all

>> boot
sash: ls dksc(0,6,7)

to list the EFS volume on an Irix CD, but ls from the >> prompt won't understand it.

Re: Mount the problematic o2 disk on Octance. How to diagnostic

There are 16 partitions on each disk. Usually the only ones that are defined are partition 0, root; partition 1, swap; and partition 8, the volume header. sash is kept in the volume header, which is not mounted in Irix. You can use the dvhtool -v list /dev/rdsk/sc1d1vh command to see the files in th...

Major facepalm... do they know how to type "jot /usr/include/sys/dvh.h"?
Reverse engineering indeed.
