Re: Mac Pro El Capitan Recovery?

Hey Pentium, El Capitan is the last version that will run on my Late 2009 Mac Mini Server, but it is running, although some applications have compatibility problems, and it runs extremely slow. So I will be reverting back to an earlier release.

Re: Things to buy....

I think I'd like a sound mixer. Know nothing about them though. Give this a try: https://www.amb.org/xmmix/ Runs on SGIs! Obligatory screenshot: Hey, looks rather cool Vishnu. My discreet outputs adat/optical to another octane, so this could be a very good solution and will take up zero space. Just...

Re: O2 R12K 400MHz, DCD, 512MB, Barco Chameleon

401 MHz? Nice machine though, bit more memory and you could run discreet flint, you would though have to import your media, unless something attaches to the AV1, I don't know of anything except the o2 Camera. Oh and you'd need a second external drive for the framestore. I have a flint o2 with an AV2...

Re: I like workstations dedicated to only one purpose ...

OMG... that screen... drool.... SGI sold their own badged version of that CRT in the early 2000s. Trust me, carrying one up a flight of stairs is not fun. I've put a few in my loft balancing my legs either side of the banister, you reach that point of no return and it's extremely scary. Never again...

Re: your latest purchase

I'm apparently on a dead disk formats tear, as I bought both a Laserdisc player AND a MiniDisc Walkman... Ah, Laserdisc. Now you just need the unadulterated Star Wars trilogy... I just bought a Phillips Lazerdisc player and I have been watching a Star Wars disc on ebay. Think that's gone now though...

Re: your latest purchase

Oh look. Now I have TWO Panasonic PK-958 Newvicon pickup cameras. Did someone say stereo? ;) I totally love how they have a built-in character generator and to use it the camera has a flip-down keyboard. Wow Pentium, nice. I have two Sony Trinicon cameras with CVS and Betamax players, but you...

Re: Maintaining Hardware / fesability of keeping hardware running

I wonder about the popping of power supplies. Is it occurring when you completely disconnect power - remove the kettle lead so speak. I ask because touching wood, since I have power going to my machines all the time, yet turned off and on, I haven't suffered that for a few years now.

Re: ADAT. And the secret is...

Thanks for all the good answers chaps. So, could you go from the OUT on Octane A to the IN on Octane B ? [Edit] Well indeed you can, although set at 32hz rather than the default 48 (may be a red herring). Also the cheapo adaptor does work on the Digital Out port on the Octane (the cheapo device has ...

ADAT. And the secret is...

? OK, well, never had any joy getting ADAT working from an OCTANE. Tried a Sound Bar some time back that never worked, but then it never worked on anything including TVs, so I put that down to it was just FOOBAR'd. On a recommendation from a friend as a VERY cheap first port of call for testi...

Certainly rent a bit of time and run the old Lotto predicting computation program on it.
