Re: RISComputer 3240

Great find Miod!
I've actually been working for a while on a History of RISC/os website. A website similar to Ryan's History of IRIX.

Would you mind if I referenced your site and the pictures of your RC3240 when I get my site up?

Re: Has anyone see this EBay posting?

If the scrap value of an Onyx2 is > $300 then there must be more gold in my computer systems than in my wife's jewelry box  Not a chance that is worth $300 in scrap. Maybe $30. Sounds right. When I had to scrap my Onyx Deskside (RE²) I got $8 or $10. It had a bad Dallas chip, pinstripe of ...

Re: Craigslist: IBM AIX Hardware

I don't mind paying for recycling, but when the only e-waste place around is on the other side of town and open two days a week... It's a similar situation in the city where I live: there are two e-waste recycling centers, one is open a couple of days a week and you have to pay, the other is just o...

Installing & booting IRIX from Compact Flash (CF-IDE-SCSI)

Using a Compact Flash card adapted to IDE adapted to 50-pin SCSI for installing and booting IRIX on an older IRIS (PI or Indigo). I notice the classic Mac enthusiasts are trying this: here and here . Anyone tried it? Any technical reasons it wouldn't work with IRIX? I know the classic Mac OS is a lo...

Re: [ebay] Professional Iris (not mine / no relation to sell

Are you sure 2.x ever was released? 1. 4D1-3.0 and the 4Sight Window System don't appear to have been released until May or June of '88. The Professional Iris 4D/60 was announced in March of '87 and had to be out soon after since the 4D/60 turbo option was announced in July of '87. So what did the ...

Re: [ebay] Professional Iris (not mine / no relation to sell

FWIW you don't need 4D1-2.x. 4D1-3.x will give you most of the early SGI experience If I had such an old machine I think I'd rather run 4D1-2.x on it. Plus, I already have 4D1-3.x running on my PI. It's still different (4Sight + NeWS instead of X11) I didn't think the 4Sight Window System came arou...

Re: [ebay] Professional Iris (not mine / no relation to sell

I thought about getting this, but I'm not sure I want to drive the 766 miles there and 766 miles back, and it's not worth the $399.99, IMO.
Plus, I don't have a copy of 4D1-2.* to load on it :-/
So it's still in the air for me.

Re: How much will a fully working Indy go for?

In Auburn. I mainly want an Indy because I have limited living space. From the measurements I can find, the Indy is fairly small so I can find a place to put it. Would "a fully working Indy" be worth say... $100 to you? If someone were to be able to conjure one up, not saying it definitel...

What part of Alabama are you in? Any particular reason you wanted an Indy?
