Welcome to the forums! Nice hardware you have there. And it's always good to see another Ontarian here.

Re: spacemouse spaceball, app side

It does beep when I start up computer, also beeps when starting up SMOKE, and attached to the serial port no problem.. but does nothing that I am aware off. Have you run the confidence tests (from Tool Chest)? It has tests for the spaceball that will tell you if the hardware works and is correctly ...

Re: HP-UX "for 700s" on an 800 possible?

All the 9.x and 10.20 releases I have seen have been for 700s. The hpmuseum.net site has software for the 800 series . The only catch is that you will need to contact them in order to actually download anything. It's my understanding that they're authorized by HP to distribute the software (so I do...

Re: How to display a clickable button in our beloved IRIX motif style.

Wow, that's a great write-up jimmer! It's a nice step-by-step guide that shows non-programmers a simplified version of the iterative process that typically goes into software development in addition to teaching a bit about ViewKit. Very well done! Does this mean you're now Professor Jimmer of Nekoch...

Re: SCSI DAT Tape Drive DDS-4

keep in mind that these are streaming tapes: they need to be able to transfer their design data rate to the host or you will get underruns LTO has "dynamic speed matching" to slow the drive down if the host can't keep up at full speed. It pretty much eliminates the "shoe shining"...

Re: Headless desktop: what's the performance loss?

So what would the lag be? Would it be feasible, for example, to use a headless desktop configuration to run graphical demos? The only way to know is to try it and see. It will depend on the graphics performance of whatever machine you're using to do the displaying. Both hardware and software can af...

Re: [eBay] SGI Dials & Buttons + Spatial Systems Spaceball 301 for sale

$200 after shipping. Daaaayum. I'm not surprised. There's another seller who wants about $100 for just the dials box. No buttons box, no spaceball. Then there was another recent seller who was asking something like $200 for just the buttons box. PixelDust1 was offering everything (including cables)...

Re: [eBay] SGI Dials & Buttons + Spatial Systems Spaceball 301 for sale

Wow, that's an unusually complete package of hardware you've got there. I often see the dials and/or buttons boxes on their own without cables, power supply, etc. It's rare to see everything together in one auction, plus a spaceball too! I'll be watching that auction for sure, and hoping it doesn't ...

Re: Testing unknown audio hardware CL TP0033

I wonder however, why would IRIX look it up in the patched emu_dd.o rather than mad_dd.o or rad_dd.o if it wasn't a EMU card? All that matters is which file has the correct vendor/device ID pair. Rather than thinking that IRIX looked up the card in emu_dd.o, you should think of it as IRIX looked in...

Re: Indigo FS in UK

And from the photo of the GFX connectors, i can infer that it is at least an Express GFX: at the lowest an XS8, at best an Elan. The last photo shows the graphics board itself where you can see that all three video memory modules are present, so it's 24-bit. No Z-buffer board is shown, though. So i...

Re: Errors after installing Nekochan Firefox3

I think you're running too old of an IRIX release. Nekoware requires at least 6.5.21. Not so coincidentally, 6.5.21 is where strlcpy and strlcat were added. (It looks like mbrtowc and wcrtomb were added at 6.5.17.)

Re: Need help with IRIX / Apache2 / PHP5 (https as well)

As for vhosts and httpd-ssl - it seems to me they're pulling double duty - everything I did in httpd-vhosts.conf (initially) is repeated in httpd-ssl.conf - just curious why. The first is the configuration for the HTTP protocol, the second for HTTPS. They're different files so that you can serve so...

Re: Need help with IRIX / Apache2 / PHP5 (https as well)

Jpstewart - good outline, and I thank you - what package contains libphp5.so? It's in neko_php5-5.2.17.tardist (from /beta). Also in some threads I've been reading they say to install 'neko_php5.sw.sapi_apache2' but when I bring up the software manager for the package it doesn't show a check box ne...

Re: Need help with IRIX / Apache2 / PHP5 (https as well)

Let me preface the following by saying that I have more experience with Apache/PHP on Linux than I do with the Nekoware packages for IRIX. I'm not an expert here. The default php.ini should suffice for testing, so I don't think you need to worry about those settings until after you get the Apache co...
