Re: your latest purchase

I just got a Sun (I refuse to say "Oracle") T5240 server. No disks, but otherwise a nice configuration with dual 8-core CPUs, 64GB (16x4GB) RAM, a pair of single port 8GB/sec fibre channel PCIe cards, and a quad gigabit PCIe network card (in addition to the quad on-board ports). If I'm int...

Re: Setting up lightpptd on IRIX 6.5

I also keep putting off creating a proper symlink so i can call things in /usr/nekoware bin. I have not been able to read the documentation for lighttpd either. again, i think i need to make a sym link to the man pages or something, but i am not sure. Symlinks aren't necessary. All you need to do i...

Re: How do you explain....

When people come round your house and say.. 'wow .. what do you do with that stuff?' [Your' SGI gear] What do you say? "Everyone needs a hobby." Some people seem to think that you need to "do" something with computers, because those people only see computers as tools at the offi...

Re: Glib failing thread test

I'm not surprised current GLib won't build with MIPS Pro. I encountered problems three years ago with GLib 2.31 (and up). I mentioned it briefly in an old post . Personally, I wouldn't bother trying to build GLib with MIPS Pro anymore, to be frank. However, it should work with GCC. The log from prae...

Re: Glib failing thread test

I don't think the configure script will figure out the right libraries/flags needed for pthreads on IRIX. Rather than trying to patch the configure script, I'd just manually add '-lpthread' to either LIBS or LDFLAGS before configuring: LIBS="$LIBS -lpthread" ./configure ... (Of course, exa...

Re: wtb: a PCI-X sata controller supported by linux

I always liked the LSI SAS/SATA controllers. The LSI SAS3080X in particular is fairly cheap and easy to find on ebay. It has 8 internal SAS/SATA ports, but you'll need the appropriate breakout cable(s). There are other models with only external ports or a mix of internal and external, depending on w...

It looks like it is available from the Nekochan FTP site:

Re: WTB-Indigo2 Stuff

So the postal workers have the customs forms on hand? I don't have to go chasing it all over town? Yes. Package it all up ready for shipping. Walk in to the post office, hand them the box, and say "I need to send this to the US" (or wherever). They'll give you various price/service option...

Re: 2 x MIA Connectors required FC

Oh, how ironic that "MIA" can mean "Missing In Action".... Anyway, if I search for "DB9 to SC fibre channel" or the like, I find much more information than when searching for either "MIA" or "Media Interface Adapter". Here's one on ebay: http://www.e...

Re: Food

 Wow. I know my way around a kitchen, but I only do simple stuff. I would never even consider attempting something so fancy. And by the time I'm done making the food, I certainly don't have the patience required to plate it so elegantly and offer up such a nice presentation. I'm very impresse...

Don't forget to set the MANPATH variable for the documentation, too.

Re: Using fsn on an Indigo2

For what it's worth, the README for fsn says: Fsn requires Z-buffering and RGB support. You must be running IRIX release 4.0.1 or greater. Those are some pretty low requirements. Later in the file, there's a warning that some things may not work so well on an Indigo. Your Indigo2 should be much more...

Re: Sun Blade 2500 Bellerophon multicard

Well, I'll admit I've never heard of a "Bellerophon multicard". My curiosity got the better of me, and a Google search turned up only one on-topic reference. According to this blog , it's a SunPCi III card. Now, that's something I have heard of! If you search for it by that name, you'll fi...

Restoration project basically complete now. Finally . It only took the best part of a decade. Considering how rare the AT/370 is, you should be proud of yourself for completing it at all! As others have said, the machine is beautiful and looks practically brand new. It's rare hardware, it runs, and...
