Re: Customized O2

My 1600sw arrived. Almost don't want to unbox it. Having a mint SGI item in box almost feels criminal to unpack these days. There is the adapter and the Irix drive as well. I can start messing around with the new O2 tonight. I will wait to do the mods until this weekend so I can video document every...

Re: fleaBay UK

Oh sorry, I just realized this thread is a little bit old. I was looking at the link posted about the Origin 200 on Ebay that someone saw when they picked up a different computer from the same guy. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SGI-Origin-200-Server-/121966995820?hash=item1c65cca96c:g:-bgAAOSwampXHeFk I...

Re: fleaBay UK

I wonder if he still has it? I didn't see it ending with it sold.

If this Origin I just picked up works with the O2 like I hope it can with maya/Softimage, I would like a 2nd one (his is much faster procs and more RAM too) to have the pair setup for rendering and archive of animation.

Origin 200 NIB yet dusty.

Well I just picked up the origin 200 that was on eBay for a bit. Tomorrow I should probably be getting the drives for my O2 so I can finish putting that one together. The guy selling it was a developer that made cards for SGI. Says they were their biggest client. Sent the this machine and an origin ...

Re: Customized O2

Ah, didn't know they moved. Probably gone then. Souvenirs for the staff or just garbage.

Can't wait till my drives arrive and I can start putting this whole thing together.

Re: Customized O2

I never went to see that Craigslist group of 02s octanes and a fuel. I have some friends that work at ILM and I might drop by there sometime later this year. I've always wondered, just like my time at Digital Domain, if they have a whole area filled with old SGI computers getting dusty. You know the...

Re: Customized O2

Before I swap the cpu out for the 400 MHz is there anything I should check with mobo? I've heard of pRom updating etc that might be required. The R10K CPU modules were one of the earlier configurations in an O2. Check the PROM version with 'version' and see if it matches a version higher than 4.14....

Re: Customized O2

You can also just take that file (or an outline you create) to a commercial sign shop, or a place that does vinyl "wraps" for cars. They should have several cutters and for a few bucks should be able to knock it out for you, "weed" out the letters to give you the stencil you nee...

Re: Customized O2

Ok, still waiting on 1600sw and hdrive. Everything else is here. Figured I'd power it up to make sure that the damage was only to the plastic case. It powers up and I get a successful hinv. Before I swap the cpu out for the 400 MHz is there anything I should check with mobo? I've heard of pRom updat...

Re: Customized O2

Not a bad idea. I used to do air brush and would quite often print and make sticky stencils that I would paint through and peel off.

I remember it being a pain back then though when it was basically hand cutting the stencil with a razor. I'll look at the machine cutting in L.A.

Re: Customized O2

Fuel Red O2? That does sound very cool. Fuel red Octane and Origin 200 sounds cool too. I will be making a sticker for the front of the case. Because you can't really have a company print one sticker I'll probably have to order like 500. So I will probably be able to send stickers to those who are i...

Re: Project Update Thread: Miniature Indigos

I looked at the little oDroid boards you mentioned. Pretty neat.

I see it has cpu, ram, etc but... where does the hard drive reside?

Re: [eBay] Origin 200 in original box

Good to know. I still haven't bought the Origin 200 but will probably do so and pick up this weekend. No one has any desk side skins for it though and I have no rack to put it in. I will probably buy a little table for it for now. Really want to get the CAD for the Origin 200 skins/plastics and have...
