Re: Installing Firefox on Octane. Lots of dependencies.

Ah hah, Perl. That’s the dot pl part.
Ok this makes sense to me now.

I was just typing ./nekodeps.pl

Be back with results.

Re: Installing Firefox on Octane. Lots of dependencies.

I have yet to make nekodeps work for me. I follow the instructions in the ## comments but it never achieves anything. I am lacking some basic missing idea that it needs to work like where I should place the file... or that the file nekodeps.pl needs to be run a certain way or installed a certain way...

Re: Blue Moon Render Tools Renderman

I was looking around for anything on Mayaman or Softman. Would be great to get a hold of these interpreters and host them here at Nekochan. I find these Renderman based clones have really good potential for use on the SGI because they are much faster than Maya software or Mental Ray in regards to Di...

Re: Hasselblad Assembly

I've always wanted a medium format Hasselblad 501 or 503. Every year I think I am finally going to get a 503. I am hoping to grab one by this summer. Still quite a few really nice condition, mint/near mint ones in Japan of all places.

Installing Firefox on Octane. Lots of dependencies.

I was attempting to install the Firefox beta on the Octane and it says I need all these packages.

Which is fine... but.. I am wondering if there is a bulk way to do it or if I just need to checklist get them individually?

Re: Blue Moon Render Tools Renderman

Found this early today. https://www.highend3d.com/downloads/applications/3d-converters/c/mai-tai Converts Maya 1.5 scenes to RIB with shadows etc. I actually do somehow have Maya 1.5 running on one of my o2. I want to test it but the download at highend seems to only have the windows version. I'd lo...

Re: Blue Moon Render Tools Renderman

Yeah, it has a radiosity option. I think it is point cloud based which is why there are splotches all over. Many of these renderman compliant clones have some kind of global illumination built in. There is one called "Pixie" which has G.I. as well and there is a plug in called "Liquid...

Blue Moon Render Tools Renderman

Since I was fiddling with 3Delight I figured I'd download the Blue Moon Render Tools in the Nekochan repository. I remember seeing images made with it back in the late 90s early 2000s. It is also came before 3Delight and both use an almost identical Renderman compliant setup. So, since I didn't have...

Re: 3Delight unearthed (Renderman Compliant)

Speaking of that. I scored a copy of Alias Wavefront 8.5 I think on disc format. It is on the way here. There is one more copy available and quite a few other discs in Irix from Ebay account mrtalida. So it looks like I'll be able to see that engine. I mean, Maya has soft shadows. Mental Ray has the...

Re: 3Delight unearthed (Renderman Compliant)

Hmm, it seems it only keeps the variables as long as I have the shell open. I can add them to a permanent text file right? So they stay even after I close shell/reboot system? I will contact 3Delight, though even this was a long shot... about the Maya plugin... its from 2003 so I am assuming Maya 4....

Re: Hello from Melbourne, Australia!

Welcome to Nekochan :) We are always seeing SGI machines change hands here and if you are around long enough you'll probably get a chance to grab an Indigo before too long. I have been doing vfx for a living for quite some time and also use the 3D software you listed though Maya and Houdini seem to ...

Re: 3Delight unearthed (Renderman Compliant)

Ok, finally fiddling with this today. This release 5.0.11 is much further along than the usual 3delight 1.0 I've seen around for Irix. It has full sub surface scattering and displacement. Soft shadows etc. Has an HDRI capability as well. Sadly the file doesn't seem to include the 3Delight for Maya p...

Re: Things that make your blood boil

The whole high-res audio one annoys me too in general. Especially as the resolution of the audio makes little difference as long as music continues to be brickwalled and dynamically compressed to shit during the mastering process. High-resolution shit is still shit... Another one that annoyed me no...

Re: First Render on Octane :) Networking two SGI

Turned out great. :) Very cool. Nurbs would be the sane choice in the older Mayas since it was the primary modeling method at the time. I was just "torturing" myself with the polygon tools to see how it would go. Definitely not the wisest use of time. :) I did use Rhino for a little while ...

Re: First Render on Octane :) Networking two SGI

For starters I’d just say that the snaps in 4, whilst workable, are intermittent depending on usage. I can use the middle mouse snap readily but to try and get it to only snap in one plane, which works quite well in even 6.5 wasn’t working as easy. There is no edge loop in the irix Maya Only the sin...
