I had originally thought netbooting was the easy option - netboot linux mips with XFS support, mount partition, clear password and be done with it. I used to have to netboot various machines on a network of HP-UX systems, and getting a new machine to boot was a 5-10 min job. Sadly with IRIX/SGI/Linu...

Problems netbooting an indy to clear root password

I've got an Indy that has the Irix 6.5 root password set. I figured I'd just netboot a Linux kernel+initrd image (from gentoo) and mount the XFS (or EFS) partition and then easily edit out the password but I cant get it to boot. Has anyone any experience with this? I cant figure out where I'm going ...

RageX - that one sounds perfect alright.... then I read the end of the last sentence :( . I'll keep a lookout for it on the 2nd hand market. Until then I'll probably go for a 9Gb.
