Re: FT: HP C8000 Quad Core 1GHz

I've been trying to convince a fellow Gentoo developer who owns a C8000 to try Radeon Kernel Modesetting, but he seems rather uninterested. It's definitely worth a shot. We've got KMS and hardware accelerated 3D working on DEC Alpha, so since the C8000 has an AGP and even has Radeons with native boo...

Indy CPUs compatible with all Indys?

I'm considering finding an Indy to use to test Gentoo boot CDs and netboot images with. I see that Indys have a wide variety of processor options (R4000, R4400, R4600, and R5000). With Indigo2s and O2s, R10k CPUs aren't really possible in some models (R10k won't work in an IP22 Indigo2s, and R10ks c...

Do you live in a warehouse? Where do you store these systems?

I noticed a lot of links to your site are 404'd, stuart. Are you still working on this?

Re: Checking around: AlphaStations

I've gotten most of my alphas from eBay. AlphaStations, I'm convinced, are sold exclusively by eBay fraudsters who use secondary accounts to bid the prices up. There's no reason an EV4 AlphaStation 255 should sell for $1000+. The prices have been very expensively lately on all Alphas. I'm glad I've ...

Re: Got a C8000 today :)

After accidentally buying another C8000 I combined them and made a super C8000...the heat it puts out now is ridiculous. There was a thread on here a while back about firmware locking out a second CPU unless you paid HP to send an engineer to unlock it (or obtain a new license?) I assume you did no...

Re: Got a C8000 today :)

A single (dual-core) CPU system shouldn't be more than about $200. For dual dual-core, PA8900, and extras, it can be a lot more.

I saw the topic title and just knew it was going to be a thread about how old SGIs are superior hardware and how they just don't make 'em like they used to.

Huh?

I was responding in general, not to you, fu.

I meant, was legalize's first thread, which mentioned the seller's name outright deleted?

I guess the other thread mentioning the seller by name was just outright deleted? This would explain why I can't find the thread or my post in it.

Re: 1600SW Graphics Cards

No progress. Still don't have a card (or monitor). Responded to a post on Nekochan offering to sell a VX1-1600SW but the seller seems unable to read messages in a timely manner, or more frustratingly, when the message are actually read in a timely manner--respond in a timely manner. What's a Pix-Lin...

OK, The same machine (R16K) that ran 0.24 sec with MIPSpro ran 7.37 secs with gcc (-O3), roughly 30 times slower . Is it any wonder why we use MIPSpro for Nekoware? ;) Quad-precision is very rarely used. It's also not implemented in hardware, so all the operations are being executed by a pie...
