Re: 3D printing SGI skins?

Specialized 3D scanners seem to combine both laser and cameras. http://www.zcorp.com/en/Products/3D-Scanners/ZScanner-600/spage.aspx Maybe one could use a barcode scanner and a digital camera to obtain the 3D model. Edit: there's quite a number of documented "home made 3d scanners". Here's...

3D printing SGI skins?

Recently broke the plastic speaker holder thingie from a O2. The thing just snapped like a twig and I was reminded of how cheap and fragile the SGI skins are. 3D printers are poised to become the next big thing and have been touted to be just around the corner from being on everyone and their moms d...

Re: Is there an Irix portability layer?

Do you think the rest of the O2 could be able to benefit from a much faster processor? There are other bottlenecks on the O2 (*cough* SCSI-I HD). So a 1GHz MIPS O2 should be a good option. The fastest available MIPS processor with SysAD bus that can be used on a sgi O2 CPU module is to my knowledge ...

Re: Choosing an SSD

Just for kicks ... how many "financial products" did you buy this past year ?

Hmmm....I've been tempted to buy FAZ now that it's at multi year low.
But...I guess I'll just stick to "barbarous relics".

Clementine music player

Hello, Just fired up the O2 to update pidgin and gcc. gcc 4.6.2 is compiling (it will take hours, specially the tests) so I can't try to compile this interesting app: http://www.clementine-player.org/ Eeek. Reading the requirements, seems like an Irix build would be hard. The biggest problem is boos...

I usually just look at the fireballs in the sky to determine the hour/day/month/year/century.

Here's something you might want to look at with your space-eye:

Parralel port floppy drive in linux.

Just got a parallel floppy drive for 5 1/4 media.
Trying to get it to work in alternate OSs.
Tried an old linux distro from 2004, but had no luck.
About to download latest ubuntu.
Has anyone gotten these beasts to work in a OS different than MS-DOS?

Re: DAT audio cleaning tape?

Thanks for the reply, yes the computer grade cleaning tapes usually work for 40 or 50 cleaning cycles and are autoejected after each cleaning pass. I'll keep in mind the 5-10 second timeframe to avoid damage to the head. Speaking of which, I also started wondering if DDS1 backup drive heads could be...

DAT audio cleaning tape?

Does anybody know if I can use a computer grade DDS cleaning tape in order to clean a audio DAT drive?
I searched but all I could find is that DDS1 computer grade data cartridges work as audio DAT cartridges (and are of better specification). But couldn't find mention about the cleaning tapes.
