Edit: ..by the way, do you know what is the most powerful single rack-chassis system? What is 'powerful' supposed to mean? Does the system: - consume the most power? - have the fastest CPU clock speed? - have the most CPU cache? - highest number of transactions per cycle? - highest number of transa...

Try an 80s Ferrari :-) So many FIAT parts it's untrue <grin>

Hamei, if you want to disillusion yourself into thinking that SGI are intellectually bankrupt, doomed, whatever - be my guest. I'm not going to argue with you. But there are a lot of good people at SGI, doing some very clever things - don't bad mouth the company, and belittle those people's work, ju...

..maby I better ask: What Linux do you get on CDs and installed on disk with SGI Itanium2 system purchase? Is it Novell (with all those GNU packages and OpenMotif) or some kind of SGIs own Linux distribution? RHEL or SUSE. I believe you can choose which one. In theory you get the ProPack so you can...

More shots, see how it dwarfes the 23" LCD... For some reason, they're pushing CFD visualization quite a bit! I was recently up at the BAR HQ near Silverstone. They have a lot of nice kit for CFD work. They were saying that the Onyx 3s they have didn't give them the performance they needed. The CFD...

I had to call twice to finally get it working - definately better than paying $50 Really? Because that lets you download a complete 6.5 base distribution set, does it? Dev online and overlay downloads means nothing if you can't get the base set. Quite apart from the real reason for this - to show S...

Indeed, what would be interesting though would be to see how much they would want to license the code (say how Zeta licensed BeOS) though given SGI history it would be megabucks that's for sure! They won't. Apart as close as you can get is they'll consider letting you sell IRIX for them. But the co...

Prism still uses AGP 8x too. One can only guess why this is the case. Alexis Cousein did some posts in the filth that is comp.sys.sgi detailing why this was. It basically boiled down to the long development lead time for stuff like this (ie. AGP 8x was there and usable, PCI-E was a glint in some wo...

Would NASA have even bothered to talk to SGI for Columbia if it was Origin 3000 based? No, of course not In case you still don't know - "Columbia" was almost entirely "donated" to NASA by SGI. They rushed to set it up quickly right before November Top 500 HPC list, so they could be on or near the t...

I'd have no problem paying more, if however ye successfully were to become an OEM provider of IRIX what would that mean? Would you (SiliconBunny) have access to the source code (say for applying security patches etc.) or are you just basically a reseller? The OEM thing is seperate from what I'm pus...

Hobbyist distribution of IRIX

Time to put your money where your mouth is  Back in January, I was contacted by the assistant to Greg Estes (SGI VP of Worldwide Marketing) about some stuff I was doing. Seeing a chance, I pushed a bit, and then got into a conversation with Jeff Greenwald (SGI Senior Director of Server Product ...

Re: Itaniums? sgi to use Dorado line to boost workstations?

Why would anyone want to buy this ? There's not a single thing about it that's special. You can buy anything you want from Sun and they haven't changed their minds every fifteen minutes about what their future is. Because MIPS just isn't fast enough, no matter how balanced a system it's in. Because...

It's a routing issue.

Post the output of 'netstat -nr' and 'chkconfig'

Either the default route is not set, or you're running a routing daemon and the box is being handed bogus route info from another machine.

I've been working on one for some time now, with input from Ian. It contains information from our websites, as well as stuff that's been written or presented ... elsewhere. Publishing deal has been secured and it's about 50% done. Should be out, all things coming together, in August. Cheers, TOM
