Re: Setting up lightpptd on IRIX 6.5

Even if it is behind a firewall, are there any major vulnerable things that are running out of box that can be removed or disabled if not needed? if it's behind a firewall and/or router the other things don't matter. assuming you only forward traffic to the lighttpd. as for the config, that's not d...

Re: SoftImage HALP!

I read somewhere (I think it was highend3d.com), that when Microsoft bought Softimage and turned it into Softimage|XSI, the IRIX version was just a half baked wrapper around the win32 version using something shitty like wine. Re: SoftImage HALP!

I tried Maya 6.5 on my O2 and it puked. Softimage is super snappy. second gen. software (maya, xsi, houdini) did not run so well on everything less than an octane. especially late versions of these (xsi did actually never run well :P). hence the last maya on an o2 is not such a good idea. for the r...

Re: SoftImage HALP!

keep in mind that things like radiosity or caustics were just starting when the irix era ended so the support for that is neither great nor fast. in most cases the rendertimes are more than long enough by just using soft area shadows already. the irix stuff is used best for what it was made and that...

Re: Glib failing thread test

I talked to the glib devs and they said it's best to just build it with gcc (and then gave me a million reasons why) of course, the foss guys always do. keep in mind tho that for irix in most cases mipspro delivers much better results so only fall back to gcc if you really need something that doesn...
