Re: Indigo2 R8000 75MHz 512MB Extreme

Its a R8000! Finding one these days that still works is almost impossible. Very very finicky system. ESD will kill the CPU if you're not careful when handling it.

Re: Onyx2: missing serial number

Upgrading IRIX to 6.5.30 got rid of the missing serial number error message, but it seems that one of my 300MHz node boards is bad; here's some snippets from the heavy diagnostics that I find worrying: Check_master: link 10 is master Check_master: link 10 is master Reading link 9 (addr 0x9200000009...

Re: What do you use your SGI for?

Okay .. so I've been working on a project involving character animation and mo-cap (ipisoft) So basically a short animated piece in my spare time.. Time that I really don't have too much of these days :) Character rigging texturing and partial animations blend-shapes, finer details such as hands ear...

Re: What do you use your SGI for?

Hi all! Not a recent work (I graduated in 2009), but I used my SGI Visual Workstation 320 to create my graduation film at the university. Parental advisory explicit content! :D Now that was bloody brilliant work :D I myself used to work for an animation studio but decided to join the fibre brigade ...

Re: SGI Onyx IR3 - What Does it Offer?

Compared to modern hardware an IR3 graphics option still has plenty of raw power. Though the RE16-4 does have its limitations, with a second RM10 large textures static and animated does not pose much of a problem. Maya is pretty fun on the Onyx2.. though CPU limitations etc makes it ideal for single...

Hah well given that most of us dinosaurs started using computers in the mid 80's... I miss the days when things were simpler and patience was a necessity :P

Re: Almost new Sun Blade1000 xvr 1200 2 x 1.2ghz

Dual Ultrasparc iii Cu's, nice! Those were the speed upgraded version of the original iii, which maxed out at 900 MHz. What's it got for graphics? I never had a Blade 1000, I went from an Ultra 60 straight to a Blade 2500, which I liked so much that I bought one for home... Its got a XVR1...

Most high end electronic repair shops can repair these things, besides they're a lot simpler than modern LED/Plasma TVs :)
