Yes it is :) SGI is going to give us access to a 128cpu Altix system to engineer an Itanium kernel. I can't wait!!!

I'll try that out once I get it... good idea!

F220 Flatscreen monitor - need ac adapter brick

I just won a SGI F220 22" Flatscreen on ebay... but it has no power cable. The specs for this monitor are the exact same as the LG Flatron 295LM LCD Monitor (http://chuck888.stores.yahoo.net/295lm.html) according to SGI (who has not more adapters) so they told me to place an order with LG... LG...

Re: How do you set up the software firewall on soalris 10?

Solaris 10 includes ipf so you should read up on ipf there are lots of good references out there. Basically you need to configure /etc/ipf/ipf.conf to your liking and turn it on with svcadm [its called ipfilter]. You config should probably have something like this # ipf.conf File: #################...

How do you set up the software firewall on soalris 10?

I've got an x4500 NAS server that is connected to two different networks (10. and 192.) I need to set up the firewall so that the 192. network needs to only be assessable via NFS and there should not be any way to log on or anything else (no ssh...etc)

Anybody know how to set this up?

Need to patch a Solaris 10 system

My new workplace has a Sun box running Solaris 10 with ZFS. We have run in to some reliability issues however. After consulting support they e-m,ailed us back a few patches that are zip files. How exactly do you patch Solaris? Is this a situation to use "patchadd"? (It's been a long time s...

Re: Ubuntu Linux on Powermac G4?

I've got an old Ubuntu livecd that I occasionally boot up on my G4 Digital Audio.

It seems not to see the cd when I hold down the C key... so what I do is hold down the Option key at boot and pick the cd to boot from the graphical menu. That works every time for me,

Couple things:

I was under the impression that IRIX has too many royalties in a system V sense and that is why it can not be open sourced.

Wouldn't IRIX be too big endian to be of any value in this x86 world of modern craputing?

I'd imagine a apple mac pro running any of a dozen operating systems would work well, your problem is program to run. I suppose if that program has dependancy issues that that's where to start (nvidia over ati (vica versa) amd over intel, 64 bit over 32 bit linux over solaris and what not.) Well th...

Does SGI do anything with Bio-mechanincs?

I've got a customer I'm doing some consulting work for who is looking for some "top of the line" bio-mechanics hardware / software. I would think that SGI has their claws in this industry but I can not think or find any examples. For those of you wondering what "bio-mechanics" is...

Yes but they are several orders of magnitude better than the run of the mill flash stick.
