Re: 4Dwm functionalities in other WM?

I actually just found someone that configured fvwm2 to somewhat look like 4Dwm. Why I never found this before I don't know. Here it is: Troy's "White Magic Desktop" for FVWM2: http://home.columbus.rr.com/tbaer/linux/desktop/ I think that for me, it will be a perfect start, to match what I ...

Re: 4Dwm functionalities in other WM?

From what I remember, Mwm doesn't do multiple desktop. From my own research, it looks I will have to bite the bullet and start a long configuration of fvwm to do exactly what I want. One thing I forgot to mention, I'm looking for a WM to run on systems other then IRIX. On IRIX, I'll run 4Dwm, why ru...

4Dwm functionalities in other WM?

Hi, I'm looking for a window manager that can duplicate some of the functionalities of 4Dwm. I know that 5Dwm/MaXX Desktop is coming, but it doesn't seem to include ov (Desk Overview) for multiple desktop (or virtual desktop depending how you call it). One of the feature I'm looking for is, obviousl...

IRIX / winterm(xwsh) and UTF-8

Hi,

Is there a way to make IRIX work in a limited fashion with UTF-8. Basically I would only want to have a terminal window (winterm/xwsh like) that could handle UTF-8 display. I have searched around here, but there doesn't seem to be much in terms of UTF-8 with IRIX.

rss on the forum?

As anyone suggested putting rss to the forums? From what I understand, there is a mod to phpbb to add rss feeds.

What would really be nice in terms of mounting something, it would be the -oloop option available in Linux. As a sysadmin, that is the one thing I miss on IRIX compared to Linux.

i miss the old netscape 4.8 days before open source broke the WWW :( likewise :D i still use it for mail anyway ... That generated a problem with one of my users still using netscape. With resent versions of sendmail as the SMTP server, the sender entry is wrong if local username doesn't match some...

Back to shells, do you leave you IRIX root account with the default csh shell?

I use tcsh for interactive and bash (sometimes bsh, if it is some old stuff). Speaking of bsh, anybody ran into the "bsh" vs "sh" problems back when SGI put sh POSIX complient (i.e. into ksh)?

I have been using 4Dwm for about 14 years (since IRIX 4.0.X) and followed along it's evolution. The reason I'm still using is not only because of "you can't an old dog new tricks", but also because of the way I fell I need to do my work. Currently I'm loggin in on my system with 4Dwm that ...

Maybe we should start a thread about what we like about the IndigoMagic desktop environment. Maybe someone knows something that is close enough to be beautified to look like 4Dwm.

I'm surprised that no one mentions the PIs, now that was a system ahead of its time. It was doing SXGA at 24bits when PCs barly did SVGA at 16bits. At the time, I was disapointed then the Indigo came out bcause the base model only did XGA at 8bits (I had actualy played with a prototype, which was PI...

You don't need to get another router, you just need a small hub or a switch, some 5 of 8 port thing would do the trick, you get a 5 port thing and you can add 3 more systems on your network (you lose 1 port on you router to connect the switch, and 1 on the switch to connect on the router). These thi...

First and only IRIX desktop since the original Indigo not to have integrated audio. The Indigo had audio long before the PC had, why cut it out and leave it to 3rd party stuff? It might be a small thing, but when you need to hunt for a PC to listen to some wav file (we use IP phones which sends emai...
