Re: Thinking about cars (wankel cars)...

My RX-7 from a few years ago. RX7-1.jpg RX7-6.jpg RX7-7.jpg RX7-10.jpg 36K miles in 2008. Super fun to drive but it only got about 18 MPG. Though that's not much worse than my current car and it could use cheap gas. I read somewhere it ran best on something like 78 octane but you can't find that any...

Re: Anyone need any multilink adapter cables?

I know this thread is REAL old but I was looking for a way to go from the 1600SW LVDS output on the O2 or Visual Workstations to DVI. Computer -[VGA Out] + [VGA In]---Cable---[DVI-A Out] +[DVI In]-[MULTILINK]-[LVDS Out] + [LVDS In]-1600SW Computer-[DVI Out] + [DVI In]---Cable---[DVI Out] + [DVI In]-...

Re: RAD pci audio card for a fuel

Does anyone have the cable in the pic below? The pic shows the card being installed in a 320 (there are multiple connectors in a 540) but I think I've seen the same connectors in an Octane PCI card cage - but I could be wrong. The card is referred to as the DS1100 in 320/540 literature but I think i...

Liquid Cooled Systems

Being a Mac person I'm well aware of the liquid cooled G5 (especially the quad :)) but I've never owned one. Though a few months ago I was playing around with an HP workstation and was surprised to find HP made a liquid cooling system that could be installed in place of the standard heatsinks and fa...

Re: FS: SGI Systems, Parts

Visual Workstation 540 - Excellent shape and pretty much loaded, 2x 500 MHz ... If someone buys this, I have four 700 mhz slot 2 P3 cpu's which might work with it ? The early high-voltage ones. Shipping them would be a bit of pita but otherwise, they're just sitting here and someone may as well get...

Re: FS: SGI Systems, Parts

Minor updates to my first post. I'm getting rid of pretty much all excess computer stuff at this point. Moved up to a Mac Pro and need to stay a bit more focused in my computer hobby... A few more SGI things: Charcoal grey DVD-ROM with power supply and SCSI cable - $75 shipped (in the US) or best of...

Can you ship the DM2 to Spain?

I could have, but it went too fast. :) I will ship anything internationally and that includes the Octane2 unless I run into package size restrictions with a country.

Re: [ebay]: Indigo2 R4K Galileo System

I asked for a close up pic of the SCSI card and got a reply that they were out of the office today but if it didn't sell and I was interested they'd send me a pic. I dug up a pic of the SCSI card I had and it doesn't appear to be the same. The connector was further towards the outside of the case an...

[ebay]: Indigo2 R4K Galileo System

Very nice looking teal R4K Indigo2 with XL graphics (though it has an Extreme badge), Galileo video option, and what looks like a GIO64 (or EISA) SCSI card. In 8+ years of hunting for SGI stuff I've seen one (maybe two) Indigo2 SCSI cards. The one I had was a Ciprico UltraWide 40MB/s GIO64 board. N...

Nobody would think to look in this thread for info on benchmarks or laptops - the 540 is neither fast nor portable. ;)

Re: New quieter drive for Fuel

Check out Ian's disk performance page http://www.sgidepot.co.uk/diskdata.html. I just bought a 15K 146GB Maxtor Atlas II but it hasn't arrived yet. With SATA drive prices up these days, SCSI $/GB is looking slightly better than before.

Re: For Sale: Sgi O2 400mhz

I thought the two disk trick was getting everything into a R5K chassis so you've got two slots for drives and there will be just enough room for the second disk though you'll be close to the CPU heatsink.
