Re: Which SGI box is your favorite and why?

I don't have much experience of SGI machines, but I do remember being in high school and college in the early-mid 90s and lusting after the Indy, especially the WebForce version as it was built for web production or so they claimed. And it looked so much cooler than PC's. Plus it had a camera! I th...

Re: Which SGI box is your favorite and why?

Actually, what you really want is a 540, much more physically impressive that the 320. I amassed a number of these units back in 2005 and it's the SGI system I have the most experience with. I would love to get my hands on a 540 at some point, but to find one now in the kind of condition that would...

Re: your latest purchase

I got mine at a bargain price. $1100 USD being the going rate for a good spec Tezro puts it out of the reach of most hobbyists. Some of us can't even afford a Fuel, and that's basically 1/4 of a Tezro! :P The thing that beats me is that Fuel's often tend to go for more than Tezro's do on the bay! (...

Re: Which SGI box is your favorite and why?

320 is cool looking, but nothing beats the Prism desktop in terms of appearance. Maybe I'm weird by liking the look of an Itanium SGI more than the older ones, but the Prism is IMO the most SGI-looking SGI product ever designed, perhaps barring the Indy. Actually, what you really want is a 540, muc...

Re: [EBAY] Weird Indigo Thing

That thing has been on Ebay for months, I was thinking of bidding on it until I noticed that the shell halves appeared to to have a broken locking tab and wouldn't lock together.

Re: [Ebay]Yet another Mytery Tezro? (not mine)

I have three Tezro's in one of my sheds that I bought some years back that I'm going to be getting rid of in case anybody's interested. I have amassed a rather sizable collection of SGI stuff over the years that I now need to start culling down to a manageable size, and I'm stating with the heavy li...

I'll second that about San Bernardino!

Simple: we don't drive them. They get sold to the junkyard for scrap value or sit on blocks in somebody's back pasture for a few decades until they disintegrate.

Obviously you've never lived in San Bernardino. :?

Re: your latest purchase

Well, that certainly explains my 1978 Fiat 131. I really loved the car and kept it seven years but towards the end it really started to rust badly in the strangest places and I live in sunny Los Angeles! My previous 3 cars were Peugeot and there never was any problems with rust on any of them That's...

Re: how things should be shipped properly

Had a exactly the same situation happen with the first SGI 540 I bought. The Ebay seller had used a massive Compaq server box/pallet to ship the unit but when it arrived at the freight dock were I worked there was a fork hole in the box. Fortunately, this box also centered the unit in the middle of ...

Re: how things should be shipped properly

About 12 years ago I found a really nice looking Indy on Ebay, the pictures of it looked great so I placed a bid and won the unit. About a week after the auction I received the shipping box with the Indy in it and upon picking the box up and tilting it slightly when I set it down on my desk I got a ...

Re: BeBox on eBay... get it while you can!

Wow, $1,033! I should put my dual 133MHz one up for sale.

Dual 133, my bad, I just got mine out of storage at it's only a dual 66MHz.
Anyway, I've taken pictures of it in preparation of listing it on eBay.
It will be interesting to see what it fetches.
