HELP! Kernel Panic!!

After a lot of tinkering, the Octane boots and passes diagnostics, but all versions of Irix that I have on hardisks give me Kernel Failures on mainboards that have been used for a while. Short of tossing the system and/or components how can I fix this? Is there anyway to boot without any services th...

What does sgi.com use?

Anyone know what runs the sgi sites? I remember a while back reading a lone challenge powered it, but that page was dated 1997. I suspect an Origin 2100, any thoughts?
Thanks,

How does a V12 compare to an Onyx2Reality or IR2 ?

Out of curiousity, how would V-12 and the V-Pro series compare with the now 5-6 year old Reality series of graphics for Onyx 2's? It seems to me from this link: http://futuretech.mirror.vuurwerk.net/octnonyx2comp.html That the V-Pro series highend should be comparable to the basic Reality config. fo...

I also just noticed that setting the pin option of Alt. PROM on the motherboard to the alternative value puts the system in a state where it doesnt even boot to the point of displaying to the lightbar. Is this normal? Is there another way to get into this system other then DB9 to DB9 ? What is that ...

In a change for the even weirder..... No matter how hard I try.... I can't get any serial console output from port 1. Nothing, not Mincom nor hyperterminal do the trick. This can only be explained by unproper motherboard pin to crossbar port, right? The green led's show: x x o o x o x Where x signif...

So your saying the crossbar's female XIO compression connector is damaged or broken? Any suggestions short of replacing the crossbar? the connecter is very clean with no damage within it, and the other side of the crossbar with the capacitators and all seems perfect.
Thanks again,

weird wild Octane error at bootup

Recently, I've had to remount my gfx boards every day or two because they just wouldn't work if I didn't. About a week ago I started getting a problem that I can't solve. I tried multiple systems, cleaned the compressors and the crossbar and under the heatsinks, but no luck. When I turn the system o...

Hmm..... Irix and partitioning...anyone know how?

Hmm, Lets say I have an old version of Irix taking a full 4gb disc and a new version which I want to keep. Without any Irix CDs, how would I format this disc to just give me more free space as an extension to my home directory? Lets say I had many bootable hardisks, each with different 6.5 revisions...

Where would I find Octane 2 skins?

I remember a while back some mention of a website with Octane skins. I also remember more recently, posts about the lack of Octane 2 skins. Does anyone have a site with skins for our precious sytems? Its a pretty cool option for " Octane upgradable to Octane2" people ( see: http://forums.nekochan.ne...

looking for R12k 300mhz module for an Octane and/or an MXI

I'm just sick and tired of getting outbid on ebay.
I'm looking for a working R12k and an MXI.
If anyone lives in the states and wants their R12k and/or MXI to go to a good place for a reasonable price, please reply.
Thanks,
