Re: How can we encourage better group participation on this site?

Have you guys ever considered a facebook page for SGI computers? the HUGE (did i stress that enough? :P ) plus of independent sites is that you're in control, not bacefook or whoever else. also the search capabilities are so much better and you can have the forum/site do whatever you want. I kind o...

Re: A snapshot of what you've got.

@josehill - actually I had been using bluebox more and more before its fan replacement surgery. Basically the Fuel is a bit of a white elephant. These days it's too slow for any real work, it lacks the charm of the older SGI machines, and yes, it's loud. While it's true that the O2 is older and much...

dmrecord.dmic - added screen port JPEG quality option

Hey All,

I modified dmrecord.dmic from /usr/share/src/dmedia to accept a [,quality=Q] option if you specify capture to be from the screen port. Tested on bluebox and with Q=90 it produces significantly cleaner footage (duh).

Hope somebody finds this useful.

Re: A snapshot of what you've got.

redbox and bluebox . redbox_bluebox.jpeg redbox isn't seeing much action these days, but bluebox has just had its PSU fan replaced and is now whisper quiet. It's getting daily use. Behind bluebox, there's a pile of O2 parts and my spare 600Mhz Fuel which donated its working PSU to redbox a while ba...

Re: Archiver 0.1 - IRIX/IMD GUI for tar.

Right, well, Errhmmm, here's Archiver version 0.6. Unfortunately, I have had to remove most of the 'make it work with stock IRIX tar' stuff i tried, as it wasnt working very well. Because we're using the VkProgram/VkSubprocess thing, it's not liking the whole *cat pipe into tar thing much. I tried s...

@Duck - LOL - no, you didn't cause The-World-As-We-Know-It to come to a messy end :)

I've fixed and added most of the stuff I was planning to add for 0.6, but I've had to disconnect bluebox for a bit while stuff goes on in my house. I'll try and get 0.6 out some time this weekend.

Re: MPlayer won't compile

Try porting the latest zsh and tcsh while you're at it, if you don't mind! No 'porting' needed. I just dlled zsh-5.4.2 from https://fourdots.com/mirror/zsh/, configured as: CC=c99 CFLAGS="-O2 -n32 -mips4" ./configure compiled with MIPSpro 7.4.4m and GNU make. It compiled fine without any ...

Re: Total Longshot - watching TV on my O2

If you got a couple of the red/white/yellow RCA outputs on the back of your HDTV box... I'm 99.99% sure they'll be carrying 'regular' SD signals. Just hook up some cables to the O2 and you're set.

Re: shell script: userfriendly.org comic strip viewer

Went with this in the end, because: 1. IRIX only provides mktemp() as a C function, it's not directly available to /bin/sh 2. $() command substitution didn't work for me with /bin/sh, so stuck with `` #!/bin/sh if [[ -n $1 ]]; then if [[ $1 == "today" ]]; then HTML="userfriendly-"...

Re: Archiver 0.1 - IRIX/IMD GUI for tar.

Well, so far mercurial has lived up to its name. Couldn't get 4.3.3 to compile, so am using canavan's 3.8.1 and python 2.7.13 from nekoware beta. I was able to pull Archiver 0.4 from the repo with dexter's --insecure flag. However, I wasn't able to authenticate to upload Archiver 0.5 (what sound _do...

Fair enough - I'll show them both versions. I'll start with my braindead one and then show them yours and dive into 'pattern matching', 'there's more than one way to solve stuff', 'good and bad practice' and 'community'.

Should be a fun session :)

Re: shell script: userfriendly.org comic strip viewer

Nice :) However, script will be shown to people who have never seen unix or 'code' before. was trying to keep it stupidly simple and thus pipes and single awk invocations seemed the 'right thing to do'.

:)
