Re: How do you explain....

I just say - "They're like classic cars in as much they remind us of times when there was a certain romance about motoring". Most people relate to the notion of nostalgia and will nod and reply: "Oh wow, so what's special about these machines then?" - opening the door to endless ...

Pointless and Right Now? Well, I'm having a break and I'm looking at the Dropbox API and the docs for the FAM.

Re: XP, I made a grave mistake

Assuming you have backups of your data files like drawings, letters and neko piccies :) - i would just fdisk the machine and reinstall. 3 monthly bare metal reinstalls were always "Good Practice' for XP anyway - back in the day.

Re: Have any one seen any good anime lately?

In the last few weeks I've seen - 'Nanatsu No Taizai' or 'The Seven Deadly Sins'. Enjoyable, 7/10. - 'Saint Seiya Omega' to episode 50-ish (end of the first main story arc). Just about watchable, 6/10. - Sword Art Online II, Not as good as the 1st season (8/10) but enjoyable nonetheless, 7/10. - Tok...

Food

Hadn't cooked and plated food in over a year, but I had some friends over for lunch on Saturday and got 'busy'. 00_mushrooms.jpeg Oyster mushrooms, oats and parsley, mushrooms with parmesan, parsnip fritters, red wine reduction, white pepper. 00_sunchokes.jpeg Jerusalem artichokes, pickled red radis...

Re: What extremely rare (non-prototype) computers do you wish you could find?

Not sure if this is 'extremely' rare, but I'd be chuffed to find a MIPS-based Sony NWS workstation in the UK. There used to be one at my university in Amsterdam many many moons ago. A one-off purchase or 'donation' to the faculty I was studying at. I guess there might be a market for them in Japan, ...

Re: The Problem with Apple

OMG! enough of the whining already. Apple sucketh all the week long. GNU/Linux sucketh on Mondays and Thursdays, SGI gear sucks when you want to browse porn on that lonely Sunday evening. Pick a time and day of the week and something will suck. Dead bunnies through bent straws. Now man up and move o...

Re: Baikal MIPS

I just read the baikal T1 spec sheet: Dual-core CPU up to 1.2Ghz, USB, SATA and PCIe support. I know next to nothing about hardware, but I think that means it's a slow CPU with modern I/O. Me like. I remember posting something 10 years ago about wanting a 1Ghz O2. Seems like this is the CPU for it. ...

Re: What do you use your Fuel for?

What could I actually use it for? Can I use it as a daily driver? It's the 600mhz model, will it be fast enough for day to day tasks? Well, the obvious answer is another question: What are these day-to-day tasks you speak of? If it's doing admin and horseing around on the command line. Then yes, yo...

When things go wrong.

Hi All, The Virtual World-based gamified learning project that I've been working on for over a year has turned the corner from potential failure into unmitigated disaster. I'm v. sad and dispondent. There are many reasons why the project went south, but, unlike in previous cases, I'm finding it very...

Re: Nedit 5.7

Thanks. Have emailed him will be sending my trivial patches in the next while. I also stand corrected about the nedit code. On second reading the nedit code is nice and clean. No idea why I said the stupid things I did above. I guess some of my Real Life project stress bled through or some other mom...

Re: MuPDF-x11 1.10a PDF/XPS/EPUB/CBZ viewer

Kind of astonished how much faster it is than xpdf. I wonder what the latter is doing to be so sloooow. *chuckle* - I did mention in the other MuPDF thread that I thought it was OMG!-levels-of-faster faster than xpdf :) I'm not sure xpdf is doing anything 'wrong' per se. From what I understand MuPD...
