Re: Problems with Ultra64 card

It seems the board is detected (as per first line of the log, on the 16th of May).
Have you checked the board ? Something might have blown?

Re: Indy + N64 Ultra Board Help

Hey,
yes there is a more recent version (2.0I); and yes, you can find it around (perhaps even from torrents), just keep looking!

Interesting, two disks you say - did you perhaps check if there were any source code on them?? That would be an extraordinary find!

Showcase file conversion

Any idea on how to convert Showcase files to *putsomethingelse*?
I have been struggling to find some tool in linux to convert some old pieces of Showcase files. Any hint appreciated!

Re: old DAT DDS 2GB + 12 tapes [Europe]

External SCSI DAT DDS drive (Conner MS2000DAT), 90-240 V ac power, has 2 big Centronics 50-pin connectors, terminator, 80 cm cable with male HD50 plug, 12 2GB/90m tapes including 3 new in shrink wrap and 2 almost new. Had been successfully used for backup/restore on Sparc's, PC's, and Indy (not com...

Re: SGI tapes revival

I've got a similar problem, except they're even older tapes. Original SGI IRIX 3.3.2, no less! Tape 2 seems OK, but tape 1 always reads with errors and looks like it's been crumpled inside sometime in the last 17 years.... Any ideas on getting tape 1 back from the dead? It's P/N 801-0023-006A, &quo...

Re: SGI tapes revival

Ok, after several attempts the things got cleared up. Apparently the drive was set to a different blocking factor than the one the tapes needed. useless to say that ubuntu has not an option in the mt utility to reset the blocksize, so after a while of peeking around i found this http://meteora.ucsd....

Re: SGI tapes revival

UnTAR'ing the tapes on a SGI is sadly not an option - its more than 2000 km away :(. Anyway, thanks for the links, they have cleared out the solution alot! It seems the blocking number is the problem, as since kernel release 2.6.13 only max 128K buffers are supported (!) by default. Some USB tape dr...

Re: SGI tapes revival

I remember having a similar problem myself. Under windows there's apparently no reliable way of figuring out the blocksize used on a (SCSI) tape. I wrote a program that tries all block sizes from 512 bytes up to (I think) 64k (512, 1024, 2048, etc) until it can read the file correctly. Then after t...

SGI tapes revival

So I have some of those old DDS tapes lying around here (mostly 90 mtrs DDS-2), and time has made me curious about them. So since I got a spare tape drive (Seagate Scorpion 40) and some free time I yesterday tried to get ahold of them. Windows Tape dumping software showed that there are some inst fi...

Re: linux freeware sgi inst archives de-packager / packager?

Do you mean something that will correctyl unpack a tardist? I remember reading a post here were somebody did decode all the parts. What problem are you trying to solve? Mmm - just to see if I understand things right, I am no expert. TarDist = collection of inst files inst files = installation archi...

IRIX 6.1 was only for R8000 Power Challenge/Onyx and Power Indigo2. IRIX 6.2 was an all-platform release again.

So it should be 6.2. Thanks :D
