Re: Onyx Terminator drive box backplane jumpers

I don't think the individual jumpers are documented, though the TRMPWR jumpers likely have something to do with the system supplying SCSI termination power. HERE you can find some info but it basically says what you know already. To convert a SCSI bus from DIFF to SE mode, you need to: 1. Replace th...

Re: Best processor on Octane 030-0887-004 board

I've read somewhere you can't go above dual 300 cpu's on a 030-0887-004 board, is this correct? If not, what is the fastest CPU module the Octane 1 boards can take? Dual 400: http://forums.nekochan.net/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=16718591&p=7282098 Granted, that's an 030-0887-00 5 mainboard, but A...

Re: Octane2/Onyx350/4 - ACARD ARS-2160H/ARS-2320S with Samsung SSD

Yes, this is a dual module O350 and the second module never had an IO board, or SCSI backplane for that matter. The LSI SAS3041X-R is limited to 3Gbit SATA, though I think I've heard Ian Mapleson mention it could do 6Gbit with a FW update; possibly SAS 6Gbit only. Also keep in mind IRIX is limited t...

Re: Octane2/Onyx350/4 - ACARD ARS-2160H/ARS-2320S with Samsung SSD

With a stripe of two cheapo 2TB SATA disks I get ~ 200MB/s: http://forums.nekochan.net/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=16724207#p7330958 Basically, I get the same streaming speed per disk for the SATA disks using an LSI HBA as you get from the SSD in the SCSI adapter, but I have two disks, and the SSD wins...

Re: Re-enable a CPU on an Onyx or Challenge L?

Been a while, but I think it's

Code: Select all

enable N

from the PROM console, where N is the number of the CPU you want to enable.

Re: O2 and Octane2 Display Modes

My HP EliteDisplay e241i does not like the signal from the 13W3 - DB15 adapter I just purchased...yes it's a SGI specific one that corrects the sync signal for use with non-SOG monitors. I only see a very badly truncated image with really bad gamma and some bizarre grey borders. I know it's not the...

Re: Obtaining licenses for old software

I remember installing flexlm patches in two workstations. While it's possible to patch license checking code out of software, for older versions of FLEXlm it's possible to extract everything you need to build a keygen from the target. The license entries generated with such a keygen allow you to ru...

Re: Obtaining licenses for old software

I wonder what it would take for someone very skilled to be able to reverse engineer the license authorization system for your software. The A|W software? That's a pretty 'soft' target. Read some of Fravia's pages on woodmann.com , especially SiuL+Hacky's text about FLEXlm and Linux. The toughest bi...

Re: Dammit

Hi Jan-Jaap, Read a few threads on Dallas chip expiry issues. Is this SGIs equivalent to vintage Macintosh leaky capacitors? Not a matter of if it will fail, just a question of when it will fail. Every component has a certain life expectancy, and everything will fail eventually. I'd say leaky caps ...

Since you have to initialize the 4D PowerSeries NVRAM by hand, I might as well leave this here: .data:B06301D0 nvram_defaults: .word aNetaddr_1 # DATA XREF: init_nvram_params:loc_B0600B5C .data:B06301D0 # init_nvram_params+4C ... .data:B06301D0 # "netaddr" .data:B06301D4 .word a192_0_2_1 #...

Well, once you key in the relevant NVRAM parameters, it boots and flips polygons like it's 1991 :D
