Re: your latest purchase

I've ordered for it already a Wi-Fi mini-PCIe card from China Mine's purely a router, I do wireless with a dedicated AP (currently an old router, but I plan to move to a mesh solution). I tried Linux based routers with AP functionality without much success before. Always something: either it needs ...

I've been using an apu2c4 running pfSense for a while now and couldn't be happier.

Re: R12K O2

I've seen O2's (and Octanes) that had problems with memory sticks, but I've never been able to pin it on the sticks themselves. I had the feeling it affected the memory sockets furthest away from the CPU, so might be related to signal integrity. No amount of cleaning would fix it. For the Octane mai...

Re: Picked up O2+ on eBay.

If I drill the harddrive bay out, that's all that should be required right? Drilling is only necessary for the oldest of R5000 O2's. Newer R5K O2's had a removable divider. You will probably have to remove the bottom skin piece, and messing with the skins of an O2 without breaking something can be ...

I let go of my entire collection [...] all of the machines found nice new homes Yeah, I recall pulling some 4D/35 bits out of a basement in Brussels :) these days it's either getting some low-end gear and loving it for nostalgia's sake or sinking a lot of money into systems that will, eventually, b...

Re: SGI Origin 200 Server Promo Wind Up Toy [ not mine ]

Well its not the only remaining Origin-200 with all skins intact, mine is pretty fully loaded but no currently running and sits close to a E450 fully loaded :D Hey, I see I'm not the only one with an O200 named 'speedo'. At least, mine *was* named speedo, but then an O300 took over it's tasks and t...

Re: your latest purchase

I bought a Lucid ADA8824 Discreet A232 interface. Eight channels of audio in and out, with ADAT connection to the SGI. It was the last piece I was missing to restore the Discreet setup on my Tezro to full working order. Right now my Tezro is sitting on the Dmedia breakout box. I'm thinking of buildi...

Re: Archiving ftp.sgi.com

I hope you used something UNIX based capable of mirroring symlinks rather than duplicating the symlink target? I excluded (from the toplevel): "private" (unreadable) "public" (Rackable stuff) "copan" (COPAN stuff, also seems to contain customer-uploaded logs, bah!) The ...

Re: Archiving ftp.sgi.com

I last ran a mirror in early 2016. I suspect noting MIPS/IRIX related changed ;)

If you exclude a couple of obviously "rackable" directories there's ~ 14GB of material.

Re: A snapshot of what you've got.

I now own an Onyx. Can confirm, is huge. Wait until you spot a tall rack Onyx :) I used to have a deskside O2K sitting next to my Onyx2. I thought it might be (floor)space efficient to replace both deskside with a tall rack Onyx2 and effectively "stack" them. Looked up the dimensions of a...

Re: For Sale: SGI Octane 300MHz 300GB 6.5.30 preloaded

There's no such thing as an Octane2 CPU. The older '0887' mainboard will take CPUs up to 400MHz R12K (except the 270MHz R12K).
The R14K CPUs are officially only supported on the newer '1467' board. If you can afford one of those a newer rev mainboard should not be a problem either.
