Re: Looking for O2 R5000

The O2 demo discs contain a 3D model of the entire system, probably a VRML file.

Re: your latest purchase

One of them I'm planning to upgrade to Xeon E3-1265L V2. They are quad core and the TDP is 10W above the rating of the heatsink, but I think they will just throttle down if needed. Mine originally came with a Celeron but the original owner upgraded to an E3-1260L which is the Sandy Bridge equivalen...

And then there's the single blower found in the bottom of the Onyx1/Challenge: onyx_blower.jpg Not quiet but very tolerable. A somewhat mechanical humming noise, for as long as it doesn't go into 'fastfan' mode at least. It would probably shred anything that accidentally fell in. Including your fing...

HPE_ProLiant_MicroServer_Gen8.png An HP Microserver Gen 8 with Xeon CPU and 16GB RAM. It's going to be my off-site backup server. Automated ZFS replication instead of lugging external disk boxes around :) I chose this one (2nd hand, 6 months old) because the brand-new Gen 10 model only comes with s...

Me neither. Saw it, but have too many Indigo2's already.

Re: High Impact or Max Impact?

I will definitely put a 100Mb NIC into the machine. Beware that the 3com EISA 100Mbit card is a disappointment. It is relatively slow (~ 35Mb/s, half duplex iirc) and pulls 100% CPU load on top of that. You want something on the GIO64 bus, like the Phobos G160 card, which does the full 100Mb with l...

Re: Things that make your blood boil

Nowadays, the high resolution format used by audiophiles who make use of music servers and very expensive "and I mean, very expensive" discreet DAC's is the DSD file, but good recordings in this format are not that easy to come by yet, and a really good recording on normal Red Book CD can...

Re: Indy case discolouration

IIRC retrobright works less well on granite keyboards and mice than beige ones. Same might be true for the blue of Indys. Also, you don't want your Indy to look like a stone-washed jeans ...

Re: Looking for utility to Test lots of hard drives

First of all: often these arrays come from SAN servers. Especially the more high end SAN servers format the disk for block sizes other than the usual 512 bytes/block. If that's the case you'd have to low level format the disks to 512 bytes/block. Otherwise it's just a matter of exercising the disks....

Nice! The Chameleon card is a color space converter. The source code of the driver used to be on the Developer Toolbox site as an example. But I guess only the Barco software (Creator) can make real use of it.

Re: Neat Tezro or sale in New York (not mine)

Not bad. Many of the bays are filled in. Though, I don't see any sleds or drives. That has to be a pain. Looks like a former Discreet system: DMedia DM3, 2x QL2342, dual Gbit, dual serial and RAD audio. The drive carriers are generic and easily found: http://www.nekochan.net/wiki/Origin_350_Drive_C...

Not purchased, but received as a perk from $WORK: a GoPro Hero 6 plus 64GB SD card. 2001668425.jpeg Resolutions up to 4K @ 60HZ, or frame rates up to 240FPS :D It's not much larger than a box of matches and most of that space is taken up by the battery which is pretty amazing. This is what you want: ada8824.jpg 8x analogue in, 8x analogue out, and I believe 8x AES/EBU in,out as well (not 100% sure). AES/EBU is the pro version of SPDIF so that should connect to e.g. a DAT recorder or CD player. The Discreet A232 version of the Lucid ADA8824 pictured here is (you guessed it...
