Searching around, I found this: cch.loria.fr/documentation/O2000/programmer/pdf/06chap1.pdf.gz "Secondary cache lines are fixed in size at 32 words, or 128 bytes. Main memory page sizes are multiples of 4 KB, usually 16 KB." The "usually" is kind of scary (a kernel configuration...

using 'sar' to get memory statistics

Hey all, I consistently run 'sar -A' and store the data files on some of my production systems here at work. I need to pull out of them memory information... specifically how often memory is getting used up or swap space used. It seems like running 'sar -R -f <my data file>' will give me exactly wha...

If this is an LCD you're having problems with, then you might want to check if it has some sort of "Auto adjust" button or menu option. Something similar to what you described seems to be quite common with LCDs connected via the analog port and the auto adjust fixes it almost always (use ...

'fuzzy' monitor ... how to fix?

Hey... I've got an octane w/an extra graphics card so I can have the whole dual-headed destkop. I've had it for a few years now and it works great. But twice now, one of the monitors just gets 'fuzzy', like it's waaaay out of focus. It's not the monitor, since switching to the extra input on the mon...

wow, many thanks for the code :) btw: that's exactly how I determin the % under linux, simply parse /proc/stats, sleep a second, parse again, compute difference, compute percentage. and I guess that's how f.e. "top" works, because top always needs that first second before all the values s...

Ok... tried two things. First, I loaded up the freeware cdrom's I have to disk to see if they could be the magic cd's to resolve my conflicts. No go. I then figured what the heck... when I had my conflicts that I showed, I 'set rulesoverride on' and told it to install. I've done this before with no ...

I thought about ingoring the dependencies... but correct me if I'm wrong but I can't do that unless I type 'set rulesoverride on' to let it install anyway. Then of course there's still no way of knowing what kind of unknowns doing this could cause. I was kinda hoping somebody else out on the board h...

sgi's 'gnu' package

Hey all. Forgive me if this is answered somewhere on the forums... but I searched and couldn't find anything relevant (actually was overwhelmed with the hits I got). I've got my desktop system running 6.5.27, and I wanted to install the 'gnu' package. I've got all the base 6.5 cd's and the different...

possible java problems w/foetz' new firefox 1.07 build...

Hey all, I've just downloaded foetz's firefox_107-gtk1 version (was running the same 1.06 version) and I tried this one java page that I have found that is a good little 'java test' type page: http://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml It starts to load up, but then the browser crashes and I ge...

this is so cool!

Thanks ducks for the icons and jan-jaap for showing me how to make use of them. It worked like a charm, and I don't even install firefox & thunderbird in the standard locations.... I've got them all on a separate disk: /disk1/web_browsers/firefox/firefox /disk1/mail_clients/thunderbird/thunderbi...

Thank you glennmeyer! I did the same thing in my prefs.js file and it worked like a charm! It's nice to finally be able to click on one of those 'email me at... ' hyperlinks in a firefox window and have my thunderbird message compose open up.

Sweet!

Sorry but am I the only one who thinks these post bars and titles are a bad idea? I have seen many boards/forums that have ratings/titles/progress information for users and all they ever achieve is an increase in spam and pointless threads. I like the fact that there is a low amount of useless post...

Interesting... in my 8+years of admin'ing SGI's (and having my share of them lose power unexpectedly), I've never seen a system boot up and see something like this: The root file system, /dev/dsk/dks0d1s0, is being checked automatically. fsck: checking /dev/dsk/dks0d1s0 ** Phase 1 - Check Blocks and...

Re: Invoking thunderbird from Firefox.

I was using the Mozilla suite on IRIX until a few weeks ago, when somebody at SGI told me about Nekochan. I soon found foetz's builds of firefox and thunderbird, which I have already been using on other platforms because, well, firefox is better than IE, Safari, etc. Thanks, foetz! One thing I can'...
