Re: Softimage weirdness: Not registering mouse clicks

1280 x 1024 was the standard display resolution for computer graphics workstations throughout most of the 90s - you should just find a display that works natively at that resolution. Thankfully thrift stores are full of them now so you'll have plenty of low-cost options.

Re: your latest purchase

He was the original owner. About eighty years old and he said the only reason he turned them in is because one is broken and his hands are too arthritic to hold a joystick anymore... Damn that's sad, but it's good to hear they made it into the hands of someone who understands their value and can re...

Re: A snapshot of what you've got.

The first pic is an old one that shows roughly half the systems in my collection. The second pic is more recent and shows everything packed away in storage, where it will stay until I have a place with enough room to hold it. Not shown are my Crimson, teal I2, Mac Plus & 512K, and a bunch of old...

Re: how things should be shipped properly

eBay includes shipping costs when calculating their final value fee. They started doing this a few years ago because some sellers were skirting eBay fees by selling items at low BIN prices and charging abnormally high shipping prices. So now eBay effectively takes 10% of whatever sellers charge for ...

Re: how things should be shipped properly

Just received another O2 that was needlessly damaged during shipping: 20171031_185510.jpg This happened despite the fact that I asked the eBay seller ("error-of-ruto") to use a minimum 22" cube box and ensure at least 6" of packing material around all sides. He reassured me he wo...

Re: your latest purchase

Found this boxed Sound Blaster Live at a Goodwill last weekend. Not particularly exciting hardware but it's unusual to find the original retail packaging (which is 90% empty).

Not sure if you've seen this already but there's a TDZ 2000 currently on eBay for a good price.

Re: Best workstation to start with?

Telling people to get one of these as a first SGI means you don't know your bulbous dorsal appendage from a depression in the planet. Hamei, you are one of the smartest guys on Nekochan and I respect not only your opinions but also the colorful ways in which you present them, but in this case I beg...

Re: Best workstation to start with?

I'll repeat what I've always said: IMHO, the O2 is the most convenient introduction to the SGI platform. It has drawbacks - delicate skins, flaky CD-ROM drives and memory, and pedestrian performance. But those are far outweighed by the fact that you can use it with a thrift store kbd/mouse/monitor, ...

Re: your latest purchase

Picked this up from a Craigslist seller in CT a short while ago - it's a Mac Plus with 4MB RAM and a Kensington System Saver. Works great.

Re: "Intergraph ZX10" problem with AGP Pro / Wildcat 7110

This might not be a welcome suggestion but I'd recommend another model of Wildcat. I used a 7110 in a Dell P4 workstation for a while and it eventually broke, giving similar symptoms to the ones you've described: blank screen and BIOS error beeps on boot. Not a very reliable board. The ZX10 systems ...

That combination of twin O2s and Softimage book really brings a tear to my eye. Looks like you've got the beginnings of a nice little render farm :)

Re: your latest purchase

My lastest car... NICE. I drove a BiTurbo once and it was surprisingly fast. Love the aggressive look too. But man, the reliability issues would scare me off. How will you handle it - do you have a shop or a good mechanic? And have the issues been solved over the years? Such a cool car if it can be...
