WTB: Sun Ultra 60

Would like a Sun Ultra system to run LightWave 3D, preferably a dual-CPU Ultra 60 with Elite3D graphics, but will consider any Ultra 60 in good condition, especially if close to NYC.

Re: Free: SGI 20" CRT Trinitron Monitor GDM-20E21 - New York

For a while CRT screens were totally worthless - couldn't give them away and even thrift stores would refuse to take them. Now it seems as though they're starting to become scarce and collectors are actually willing to pay for working ones. Probably a good idea to hold on to LCD monitors with analog...

Re: Acclaim Entertainment / Probe Software Indy w/Nichimen N-World 3.1, Soccer Mocap

There are a few left - just listed one tonight, but it has mostly Acclaim corporate e-mails and other production-related docs inside, no actual 3D software. Still trying to decide whether to keep or sell the one with a licensed copy of Alias Wavefront.

Re: Well I finally got my O2...in a million pieces

That damage is definitely the fault of whoever packed it - totally inadequate cushioning for an O2. They need at least 6" of peanuts and/or bubble wrap around all sides if they're going to survive shipping. I'd love to see somebody 3D print replacement SGI skins, but with improved designs. The ...

Re: WTB SGI Indy

Acronym has been selling SGI stuff on eBay for years - he's a great guy. You're in good hands.

Re: WTB SGI Indy

I have a few Indy systems without rare software/art that should sell for normal prices, probably in the range of $100-$150. If you'd like to arrange a sale off-eBay, PM me and we'll work something out :)

Re: PowerPC Macs - Are They Still Useful?

Interesting video. 8-Bit Guy did a very similar video six years ago where he forced himself to use an iBook G4 as his primary system for a week:

He concluded that they were still quite usable for everyday tasks in 2010.

Acclaim Entertainment / Probe Software Indy w/Nichimen N-World 3.1, Soccer Mocap

For those interested, the eBay listing just went live tonight. This is an Indy from Probe Software (UK game developer) containing what is probably the world's only fully licensed, working installation of Nichimen N-World 3.1, the BioMotionEditor mocap editing package, and 300MB of motion capture fro...

Re: Giant collection of SGI Hardware Dumpster bound

Just want to chime in and say that I had nothing to do with any of this. There are a couple of Nekochan users who have an obsessive level of butthurt about my retro-collecting and eBay activities, and no doubt one of them is behind whatever messages you may have received. There are two user accounts...

Re: trying to solve a unresolvable symbol when running Mirai

Figured it was probably a clock-related issue since nothing else about the system had changed.

Re: trying to solve a unresolvable symbol when running Mirai

I was seeing the exact same error with N-World 3.1 on one of these Indy systems. Changing the date to 1999 solved it.

Nichimen Graphics N-World 3

In the spirit of Foetz's more well-researched reviews of notable SGI graphics packages, here's a brief overview of Nichimen's N-World suite, a game-centric 3D toolkit that was popular in the late '90s. Screenshots have been taken from the software and from the accompanying HTML documentation pages (...

Re: Archaeological dig: old Indys from Acclaim Entertainment unearthed

Thanks, I was just about to post an update :) The NBA Jam discovery got picked up by Gamasutra , Kotaku , and a few other news outlets. This weekend I sat down with some of the other CDR discs and found some original high-res sprites for Batman Forever . Scrounged a bunch of 3D character models and ...

Re: Archaeological dig: old Indys from Acclaim Entertainment unearthed

Sorry, I didn't mean to suggest that the buyer would leak the code, just that he would properly preserve it and prevent it from being lost. And yes, the law does generally impose accomplice / conspiracy liability on someone who picks another person to do the dirty work, so I couldn't rightfully stri...
