Re: Yet another O2 PSU fan replacement

I put a handheld thermometer against the vents of the PSU and while the R5K never gets above 31-32 i have measured 36 degrees celsius on the R12K with my EBM Papst mod (both models have it). So that should still be the safe limit. But do post your R12K mod, i'm curious what you changed in running th...

Re: Yet another O2 PSU fan replacement

It seems that the thermal design page from rvic's post mentioning the front panel openings still rely on unfinished prototypes of the O2 cabinet. He mentions air leaking out of the mainboard towards the front. I cannot seem to find a good photo of the front of an O2 without scalp, but i'm pretty sur...

Re: Is there a way to see what the current blocksize is for a XFS filesystem?

Thanks for testing gijoe77, but yeah you're right, the scsi2sd devices do not tolerate another device on the same bus. It looks like the ability to select multiple device ID's makes them claim the entire bus. At least Indigo2's have two buses, so you can hook up the scsi2sd devices separately from o...

Re: Anyone have any idea where I could find a CD-ROM drive like this?

The 44 pin connector seems to be a mini-IDE + power connector. I'm sure this is known, but i thought i'd mention it anyway. So you could try out a generic IDE slim CDROM and find a convertor online or solder something yourself.

Re: Homebrewed 128Mb SGI O2 RAM

O2 memory is harder to get than Octane ones and due to higher thermal load in O2's they tend to break early. So yes, recreating those memory modules could be interesting. Do you have any cost estimate when producing a +- 50 piece batch?

Re: No prom graphics with console=g

We used to fix these kinds of errors by doing a

Code: Select all

resetenv
in the PROM console to get rid of bogus display settings. But i am not sure you want to do that if you want to keep some variables. Better write down the stuff via

Code: Select all

printenv
first.

Re: Indigo2 randomly turning off

This is a problem of the power supply. Many impact models observe this behavior. There is a list of capacitors which you can swap inside the PSU to try and resolve this problem here Succes is not guaranteed, however. I think Jan-Jaap attempted this and had a 50-50 chance of fixing/reviving an Impact...

Re: Indigo R3000 ROM versions (re SSD)

From http://www.nekochan.net/wiki/PROM it looks like you have one of the latest PROM revision for the R3K Indigo, not one of the earliest. Can you give us the version string in the PROM firmware? So i can add it to the Wiki. I have the SCSI2SD as primary disk in an R4K Indigo but not in my R3K yet (...

Have a look here

If you browse around you will find PROM images of the Personal Iris which also has an R3k

Re: Indy and indigo2 emulation in MESS (WIP)

I think you can give C coding the emulator in Qemu a try. Qemu is pure C so you don't need to carry the C++ luggage with you, like what happened in MAME. I have some skeleton stuff derived form the MIPS Magnum. Qemu has a pure R4000 core and i'm not too familiar with the differences with a VR4300. P...

Re: Indy and indigo2 emulation in MESS (WIP)

Thanks Ozone for joining us here and showing your work in this post. There is a lot of stuff to cover from your first post. I'll have to reread it a few times, but i have seen the VR4300 layout video which looks very instructive. I am planning on trodding along with qemu to get something emulated, s...

Just a note that License information for HPN-SSH is completely absent. Apparently the patch has been offered to the openssh developers, so it could surface as BSD license which openssh has now. Until then any licensing issues are unsolved.

Re: Disable nis

Oh man, that was a long time ago i used NIS at the uni. Have a look at your /etc/passwd file and make sure there is a regular entry for root, not just a line with +:+::: or something similar. Other places where NIS (or YellowPages as it is used to be called) leaves its mark is /etc/yp.conf and /var/...

Re: Windows 10 Enterprise help needed

Nothing like that, I have two SATA drives, Win 10 on C: drive and Norton backups on D: drive. There is an old installation of WinXP on the D: drive but it's not set up to dual boot Hm, you could try to disconnect D: and restart the update. Does it fail at a specific percentage when you're greeted w...
