Re: CPU Panic?

Welcome, So the diagnostics do run fine? No CPU errors? If that is the case and the machine still refuses to boot, maybe you should: - try checking the env variables in the PROM command line. - try checking the disk with fx and look for any signs of problems. - try to boot miniroot from network or a...

Re: Perl CPAN failing to install modules

Anyway install CPAN worked. My SSL module won't build probably because SSL is broken on the box. I've revisited this problem today since we have proper openssl alternatives now: Brent Canavan and i have made new packages for neko_openssl and i could successfully build Net-SSLeay-1.81 aka Net::SSLea...

Re: SGI History Part 3 is here! This episode covers from 1993 to 1996.

I suppose that I can install the motherboard and CPU my current Indigo2 then. Yes and that's pretty much it. The Power Supply is relatively interchangeable between R4K systems and R8K, see http://www.oocities.org/siliconvalley/hills/3730/indigo2_powersupply.html The rest can be swapped over from th...

Re: SGI History Part 3 is here! This episode covers from 1993 to 1996.

If I manage get it, I will install it in an Indigo2 Impact machine, when I eventually acquire one. Alas, you cannot "sidegrade" an R10000 Indigo2 Impact (IP28 motherboard), or an R4400 Indigo2 (IP22 motherboard) for that matter, with an R8000 CPU-card. The motherboard must be an IP26 a.k....

Re: SGI History Part 3 is here! This episode covers from 1993 to 1996.

The R8000 seems to be an interesting chip! Except that it is not actually a chip but a processor board with two MIPS CPU's, cache and glue logic. Have a look at R8000.jpg That is a picture of an actual R8000 processor board. I would seriously like to have a system with one installed someday. Well, ...

Re: SGI History Part 3 is here! This episode covers from 1993 to 1996.

There also is one hint in the manual page of 'mipscheck': 2. The Irix 6.2 (and later) operating systems for r8000s will automatically patch any running program to remove the prefetch instructions. This will not affect the performance on an r8000 but it will avoid the r8000 prefetch problem. In rare ...

Re: Tezro for sale in the Netherlands (Not mine)

Thanks, Dexter. If you're interested in the other Tezro, with the 850,- opening bid that has not been used, you could try just making them a lowball offer and go there to pick it up in Alkmaar. You're very likely right in that aspect. But i don't know about spending so much on such a system. I'd ra...

Congratz Hombre71! You must have a lucky charm, because it seems your online gambles always pay off :)

Do preserve that disk with the Smoke setup and make a backup as well.

neko_openssh 7.5p1 released

I have finished the dual neko_openssl and neko_openssh packages. Sorry for taking so long, but life got in the way and i probably made every packaging mistake i could make: especially the neko_openssh helper scripts needed testing and updating. And i included the compile fix for the elliptic curve b...

Give that repairman an extra can of beer, sounds like he deserved it!

A 100 mbit card would be a nice addition, but having 146GB inside is very adequate.

Re: Octane 1.5 no music at startup/shutdown

This seems to be covered in viewtopic.php?t=10309
So in the prom, do

Code: Select all

setenv boottune 1
setenv volume 100

and plugging the speakers to either the Line out or Headphones jack should give something coming out of the speakers when booting.

Re: Indy or O2 for hostile-heat environment

I would agree with a R5K180MHz low spec as a reliable, yet cost- (and power-) effective IRIX/MIPS machine. I've modded both my O2's with EBM Papst and while the R12K270MHz stays are 34 degrees Celcius my R5KMHz runs happily with less that 28 degrees on the exhaust, while cutting the sound levels fro...
