Re: O2, 400MHz R12000A, 576MB RAM, 73GB HDD

I used a Cooler Master R4-BM8S-30PK-R0 - supposedly 40.8 CFM @ 3000 rpm, so about 2/3 of the CFM rating on the original fan, and at that rate it's not the quietest fan in the world. Still, it's just air noise now instead of the whine from the original fan. I wanted to err on the side of too loud vs....

Re: O2, 400MHz R12000A, 576MB RAM, 73GB HDD

Edits to first post and title due to some upgrades to HDD and PSU fan. I also have a Commodore 1084 hanging off the composite output now. I know TV work was one of the design points and practical uses of the O2, but I'm still amazed at how good the NTSC output is. Something about CRT color just seem...

Re: O2 Vice MPEG2 discovery

I don't have any O2 running on anything but 6.5.30m, which I think is what you are running on as well, but I went ahead and compiled and ran the program for the sake of verification. The output is attached. I'd be glad to test anything else you have, or if you have any suggestions on things to delve...

Re: Almost new Sun Blade1000 xvr 1200 2 x 1.2ghz

Hah! Well, then kindred spirits we are indeed, as I have a 8mb Permedia 2 AGP card in my stack of ancient equipment - it was a great card, IIRC, one of the best OpenGL implementations available in the PC market at the time. I've recently thought of summoning a retro PC from the pile -- it might make...

Re: Almost new Sun Blade1000 xvr 1200 2 x 1.2ghz

That's a nice rig - I just put an XVR-1200 in my Ultra80 (Quad 450mhz UltraSparc-II), replacing an Expert3d. Even though the card is pretty aged at this point, I think it's probably still overpowered for the (even older) CPU's that are my machine. Still, it really sped up screen redraws, and Quake I...

Re: O2, 400MHz R12000A, 576MB RAM, 18GB HDD

Yeah it's really a much better machine now - using it a lot more these days. The 400MHz R12k really speeds up the graphics too, feels like a much more modern machine. I'll probably try to max out the ram and maybe put an Audigy in it, well, just because. I also need a 1600SW adapter to hook it up to...

O2, 400MHz R12000A, 576MB RAM, 73GB HDD

Just upgraded from a 175MHz R10000 - a much more usable machine post-upgrade. Now if I could just find a 16:9 video mode that would agree with my monitor... And now a 15k RPM 73GB that's much quieter than the machine-gun Quantum Atlas 10k that was in there. Also, replaced the PSU fan with a quieter ...

Re: FS: Onyx Deskside

I've actually shipped a few of these desksides and I bolted them to a small wooden pallet and then built a custom box out of plywood around them (with a cover) to protect them. I have photos somewhere of the process. Overkill, maybe but the customer (back in 2000) was happy and the cost was one she...

Re: FS: Onyx Deskside

Don't know if this will help to drum up any more interest, but this machine was previously owned by Michigan State University and was the core of an Immersadesk. I didn't acquire the Immersadesk screen, but I do have the tracked wand (sort of a wired WiiMote) and "input server". The input ...

Re: 3rd partee video cards on G5?

I stuck a PC AGP Geforce2 MX in my G4 DigitalAudio, and it "just worked". The resolution selection was a bit wonky, so I googled for "mac flash nvidia" and ended up at apple.com, downloaded an apple-provided flasher (said it would provide support for 30" cinema displays or s...

Re: Indigo keyboard adapter?

If you're not willing to wait for an adapter or the right keyboard, you could do what I do with my Onyx. I boot it up (and installed IRIX with) a Wyse terminal plugged in via serial. You could also use a PC with a serial cable and a terminal program like minicom or Hyperterminal. Once IRIX is instal...

Re: Northstar Horizon accessories wanted (or Advantage).

Well, I at least know of Northstar computers. I just recently revived my old Heath/Zenith H-89 (2 Mhz Z80, 48k of RAM, single hard-sector 5-1/4" 90KB floppy) and am about to do a round of upgrades on it... I've got another 16KB of ram and an RS-232 card for it, so I can fire up a terminal emula...

Re: Wanted: RE boards RM4, RM5)

Hey all, I'm looking for RM5's to complete the set in my Onyx deskside. I've only got one right now, and it's less than stellar, especially when trying to use the MCO that's installed in there. There were a bunch of them that went through ebay a while back (probably over a year ago now) but I didn't...

Well sure, but an Indigo and an Onyx present the same voltage levels to the keyboard port, no?
